Sideboard

Skred Red is a mono-red control deck with a lot of spot removal and midrange threats. Its name comes from the card Skred , which is basically copies 5-8 of Lightning Bolt , and it the reason for all the snow lands. This deck is very resilient to most strategies, and makes for some long games. Although it doesn't necessarily make the list of "modern decks to watch out for", it has definitely won some GPs in its time. This is the classic skred archetype decklist, but if you are looking for something newer, I made a version incorporating some of the cards from 2019:

This decklist always gives me nostalgia from the good old days when you could play skred red and not have to worry about unfair decks like fricking arclight pheonix or hardened scales affinity. You know modern is in a bad place right now because older skred lists can't really hold their own any more. Anyways, this deck has lots of spot removal, a full four bolts and four skreds, to point at anything that hits the wrong side of the board. Then there are multiple sweepers, Slagstorm and Anger of the Gods to help against wide strategies. For extra defense, skred lists usually run four blood moons, as they can stall or even end games in certain matchups. For some utility, we play Mind Stone , Simian Spirit Guide , and Relic of Progenitus . The first two help ramp while the third is just great in general against many decks in the meta, and the card draw isn't bad either. Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Koth of the Hammer are the planeswalker threats, providing some ramp, burn, and utility. Both of their ultimates can work as win conditions. Pia and kiraan nalaar walk the line between utility and threat. They are mainly used to poke down creatures, but swinging for four and then doing another four damage with their second ability, all with no other board presence, it pretty powerful. Eternal Scourge is just super annoying. He provides the resilience that this deck needs to beat control matchups. Even if they hit him with an Anger of the Gods , you can exile him with Relic of Progenitus and cast him again. Stormbreath Dragon is the final threat, closing out games against most control decks. It is actually quite easy to get konstrosity, what with the ramp cards along with Koth's -2 and Chandra's +1.
