“If fear is the only tool you have left, then you’ll never control me.” —Xantcha, to Gix

Ever since Xantcha was spoiled I've been absolutely ENAMORED by her. I started playing Magic around Core Set '14 when the Xbox video game came out so I never knew anything about her, Dominaria, the Weatherlight saga, or Phyrexia. Upon seeing her effect I became inspired to read her lore and, most importantly, build her as a Rakdos commander! However, she always seemed to fall into this strange niche akin to Zedruu in that most lists at the time simply liked to give opponents harmful things and hope for the best, and I'd like to think she's better than that.

Enter: Xantcha Group Slug

The goal of this deck is to give away Xantcha to our opponents early game to establish a draw engine whilst ramping with mana rocks to utilize her ability, protect Xantcha, punish other people for using her ability and make the effect more one-sided for us by stripping their hands/stealing other people's good stuff/denying resources, then eventually generating enough mana to kill with large X cost damage spells like Exsanguinate and Comet Storm

~~~WARNING: This deck is meant to be relatively competitive while not breaking the bank. Some of the more expensive cards here I own personally but can mostly be replaced by cheaper cards with similar effects~~~
We run a large amount of mana rocks, for a couple of reasons:
  1. Rakdos colors often has a hard time with ramping and fixing so we use rocks like Rakdos Signet and Rakdos Locket to solve that problem.
  2. Xantcha's ability doesn't have a color requirement so large mana rocks like Thran Dynamo , Dreamstone Hedron , and Blinkmoth Urn have a huge payoff late-game.
  3. We are going to run some land disruption effects (such as Winter Orb and Dwarven Blastminer ) to ensure that we get the most Xantcha triggers. Anyone who has seen my Ayula deck might guess that this is my personal favorite component!
Ayula, Ravager of Lands Show
Let's be honest with ourselves here: no one likes a double agent. It's far too confusing to keep track of who double-crossed who and no matter who benefits, no one's gonna be okay with a knife in the back. For that reason alone we have to make sure Xantcha stays safe out on the front lines!
Enchantments like Blessing of Leeches and Soul Channeling allow us to regenerate her at a measly cost.
We can also help out Xantcha with Voyager Staff , Key to the City and Mystifying Maze to keep her out of harm's during combat or the (often unavoidable) spot removal levied at her face.
We can also reanimate her with Profane Command if needs be.
This section is for all the cards that will make Xantcha's effect a little less universal.
Worse for Them
We can't have other players have as much fun as we're having, which is why Harsh Mentor , Sower of Discord , and Underworld Dreams are going to punish opponents for using her effect to draw cards, while cards like Furnace of Rath and Dictate of the Twin Gods hurt Xantcha's host twofold. Even cards like War's Toll makes it a requirement for opponents to commit fully to the cause of Xantcha. Oh, and Sire Of Insanity forces their hand and use our commander: literally.
Better for Us
Exquisite Blood allows us to gain easy life off her activations, Heartstone (besides being a major flavor win) makes it easier for everyone to activate Xantcha so it gives others incentive to do so, Thran Turbine generates Xantcha mana only for us, Treasure Nabber lets us take any other rocks that opponents would use for mana, Curse of Opulence gives us gold off of Xantcha's attack trigger and Maralen of the Mornsong makes it impossible for opponents to even draw off of Xantcha, turning her into an Aura Curse that's lets us sink excess mana into her for incremental damage.
As this deck is more based upon attrition there are few flashy kills, but late game mana sinks like Exsanguinate and Starstorm , as well as the damage doubling enchantments mentioned in the previous section should be enough to win out the game.
Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated as I want to make Xantcha work as consistently as possible!
