The idea of the deck is to pretty much always have an answer to everything. Flash cards- like Pearl Lake Ancient and Wydwen herself- can be cast after I decided I didn't need to use counter/kill spells (almost 40% of spells can be played at instant speed), and clone effects and control magic let me make other's threats my own. Other than that, I counter, kill, and bounce everything that threatens me. A lot of the cards, especially those with Awaken or Evoke, slow opponents down early game but give me bodies or further advantage late game.

"Sideboards aren't part of commander!" you say, to which I reply, "Get casual scrub." My "sideboard" is a storehouse of alternate topend payoffs for more fun, depending on the playgroup or even how you feel, as well as counterspells of varying uses and cads that didn't quite make the cut. The whole thing is a little less for improving on different matchups and a little more for providing some variations in playstyle.

Dralnu, Lich lord is an alternate commander if you want to go risky and/or there's not a lot of burn going around where you are, but I personally like Wydwen better as a threat that's very hard to deal with.

Anyway, here's some specific sideboard swaps-

Kothophed-Bloodgift Demon (If there are too many permanents dying) Sure, a black mage would take it like a man, but we're Black Blue.)

Tromokratis-Dread (Tromokratis works great against decks with a few good creatures, but can get eaten alive by a token deck. Dread, however, spooks right through a token deck, as well as giving you a modicum of protection from their army.)

Ashiok, Control Magic, Think Twice-Spelljack, Blatant Theivery, Time Stop (The first three are helpful in 1-on-1, but the last three are "EDH sized" spells. Planeswalkers also don't last long when you've got enough people.)
