Ramp/Fixing (3)

Planeswalkers (1)

Card Advantage/Selection (1)

Whenever I'm stuck, I just ask myself "What Would Gix Do?" and everything suddenly becomes a whole lot clearer.

WWGD is a Dimir (/) artifact combo deck that seeks to grind out value while setting up one of its game-ending combos. In a perfect world, the deck would be helmed by Gix himself, but because he doesn't have a card of his own yet, Silas Renn, Seeker Adept will be taking his place. The deck was initially designed to be a Rona, Disciple of Gix deck (hence the name and Silas' lack of a partner), but she was moved to the 99 and replaced with Silas because he provides the most value with the lowest investment.

If you wish to play with Rona instead, simply swap her and Silas. The deck will still work with Rona at the helm; Silas' primary purpose is to repeatedly recur sacrificed artifacts, whereas Rona is best at getting back a single important artifact, planeswalker, or legend and using excess mana to grant you access to more cards.

It is, however, important to note that because of the way Rona's ability is worded, you will lose access to any cards she has exiled if she leaves the battlefield. Here's the official ruling:

  • 4/27/18: If Rona leaves the battlefield, the exiled cards will remain exiled indefinitely. If Rona enters the battlefield again, it won’t be associated with the cards the "other" Rona exiled. The new Rona will exile a new set of cards with its first and last abilities. Only those cards can be cast using the new Rona’s middle ability.

This ruling makes Rona a little risky, but she's still very good.

Value Combos:

Master Transmuter + Any artifact with an ETB trigger ( Baleful Strix / Solemn Simulacrum / Spine of Ish Sah )

Returning an artifact to your hand is part of the cost of Master Transmuter's activated ability so you can return an artifact to your hand and then put it right back into play.

For maximum value, add Unwinding Clock and Seat of the Synod or Mycosynth Lattice so you can bounce and replay the artifact every turn.

Game-Ending* Combos:

Mycosynth Lattice + Karn, the Great Creator

Tapping for mana is an activated ability, so Karn makes lands, mana rocks, and mana dorks useless while Lattice is in play. Before assembling this combo, make sure you can protect Karn from any creatures that are on the battlefield, because if Karn dies and the lock is broken, your opponents will do everything in their power to remove you from the game.

Mycosynth Lattice + Darksteel Forge + Nevinyrral's Disk

Nevinyrral's disk destroys all creatures, artifacts, and enchantments when it's activated, and because Mycosynth Lattice makes everything an artifact, everything on the battlefield will be destroyed. Normally, this would include your own permanents as well, but because Darksteel Forge makes all of your artifacts indestructible, all of your stuff survives the blast. And because Nev's disk doesn't sacrifice itself when activated, you can activate it again on your next turn (and every turn afterward) if your opponents start to rebuild.

If you're feeling particularly cruel, add Unwinding Clock and activate the disk during each player's end step to destroy any lands they put into play on their turn.

Priest of Yawgmoth + Spine of Ish Sah + Mirran Spy

Activate Priest of Yawgmoth to sacrifice Spine of Ish Sah, adding to your mana pool. Once Spine enters the graveyard, its second ability will activate, returning it to your hand. Use the seven mana to recast Spine, and use Mirran Spy's ability to untap the Priest. Spine will then enter the battlefield and destroy a permanent of your choice. After that, tap the Priest to sacrifice Spine of Ish Sah and repeat the process until you've destroyed all of your opponent's permanents.

*Please note that none of these combos actually win the game on their own. If your opponents choose not to scoop, you will need to find a way to actually kill them.
