4th Place at FNM 5-6-0 —Aug. 4, 2017

I had some very strange draws tonight at FNM.

1-2 Control

First game I came out of the gate like a bullet, got quite a few early Creatures to stick, and finished him off quickly.

I didn't know how to Sideboard as I had beaten him so fast.

Game 2 he got his deck rolling along how he wanted it to and I could never get any real damage in.

Game 3 I was Creature screwed until the late game. By then he had enough mana up to counter anything I wanted to do.

1-1 Tokens

Our first game took fooooorever.

He kept getting a board full of Servos but then I would keep picking them off.

He eventually wore my life total down.

In Game 2 I got two Bloodrage Brawler on the field early, followed by a Neheb, the Worthy.

He held on for a little bit by blocking with Servos, but eventually ran out of blockers.

We ran out of time to finish our third match. I think I would have taken that one as I had a good board state and a lot of removal in hand.

2-1 Cat Tribal

This deck demolished me in the first game.

He had cats hitting the field all over the place.

I Sided in Hour of Devastation as a board wipe, and Magma Spray to Exile Creatures with Embalm.

That proved to be the right strategy because I was able to Exile one of the Creatures he counted on to Eternalise.

I then had enough removal options to keep getting rid of all his Cats one by one.

He started to get a stronger board presence than me so I wiped the field with Hour of Devastation. He had run out of cards, by that point, and could only play a land on his next turn.

I had held on to Neheb, the Worthy, and was able to cast, then give it Haste next turn.

He played Long Tusk Cub and was on six life.

I got Ahn-Crop Crasher out next Turn, with only an Hour of Devastation in hand.

I Exerted Ahn-Crop Crasher and hit him for nine.

In the final game he had Sided in Prowling Serpopard.

I had enough removal to destroy each Creature he played, before he was able to attack with it, while still playing Minotaurs.

He ended up conceding, because he said that he just didn't have enough cards in hand that would give him a win.

1-2 Angelic High

This is my partner's deck.

I took Game 1 due to having a perfect draw where I put Bloodrage Brawler out very early, followed by Metallic Mimic, Neheb, the Worthy, and a whole bunch of removal.

Game 2 I got mana screwed, and that was all she wrote.

Game 3 I used my removal to get rid of his early Creatures WHICH WAS A MISTAKE.

He got Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld on the field and started racking up life.

I was able to hit him for 15 one turn, which put him on two life.

He attacked with Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld for five, due to having Always Watching on the field. That put him on seven life.

I had out Neheb, the Worthy, a Metallic Mimic, a Bloodrage Brawler, and an Exerted Ahn-Crop Crasher.

I cast Unlicensed Disintegration on Gisela, the Broken Blade  Meld. He then played Archangel Avacyn  Flip, protecting Gisela  Meld. D'OH! I got three damage through to him from Unlicensed Disintegration, leaving him with four life. I attacked with everything, he blocked Neheb, the Worthy, and the Bloodrage Brawler, so only Metallic Mimic got it's two damage through. I had more than one card in hand.

Next go I was on ten and he hit me for ten with his fliers.

This was the second time this deck beat me in the final. I was salty as.

What made it worse? I built this bloody deck for him.

My removal spells worked well tonight. I was happy with Hour of Devastation, which had its first outing, and did its job of clearing the board.

Ahn-Crop Crasher gives me a chance to win, if Neheb, the Worthy doesn't drop.

I played Neheb, the Eternal in one game, but I had basically already won by that stage, and my Opponent conceded.

Been loving the Nehebs ever since the pre-release, and this deck looks like something that I could build IRL.

So when the Ixilan rolls in, and Zendikar and Innistrad roll out, have you thought about replacements? Land wise, do you think that the Amonkhet dual-cycle-lands and Ixilan check-lands are going to be the new non-basic land replacements? And I guess the biggest loss will be Grasp, but hopefully we get something new in Ixilan.

Oh, and now that people have had more time to gain access to HOU cards, how has this deck fared recently?

I need to write a match report for tonight.

This deck came third.

4-3-0

I don't like the Cycle lands. I'm hoping for something faster with the next release.

I might get stuck with having to use them.

Went to the standard showdown today. Nothing but bad luck and disappointment.

Round 1: 1-2 against mono black vehicles (I think)Didn't get enough kill spells one game and not enough creatures another. The game I won was ok though, I got all 4 mimics out at the same time, so that was interesting.

Round 2: 0-2 against Mono red burn. Never saw either of the Nehebs, the mimics and everything I sideboarded in both games

Round 3: Bye (Only points I got all day)

Round 4: 0-2 against BUG (Splash Red)zombies. Opponent had a lot of kill spells and kept using Elder Deep-Fiend to bring Kozilek's Return out of the graveyard and wipe my board. Again, never saw my sideboard or any eternal Nehebs in both games.

I don't think it was the deck, just my really bad luck. Hopefully next week won't be as disappointing for me.

Wow Rhys_Fahey you had some bad luck.

Constant board wipes are not good for this deck, though.

Rhys_Fahey the game you were playing where you kept getting wiped by Kozilek's Return, was your Opponent exiling that card after playing it from the Graveyard?

Yes, and the opponent kept getting all 4 in the graveyard. It had a LOT of milling in it, and there was a playset of returns in the deck

Self-milling?

You need to change your Sideboard against this deck.

I would removed 3x Hour of Glory and 1x Chandra, Flamecaller for 4x Abrade

You might also want to take out 4x Magma Spray for either Lost Legacy or Lay Bare the Heart

Well I don't need Hour of Glory I guess.

Grasp deals with Hazoret fine and that's the only God I see at my LGS right now so I'll try that next Saturday at the Showdown.

MiRaGe187 I've removed your Comment as this really isn't the best place for it.
