I always liked that Wort as a commander. +1

Optimator, me too! She's fun to play. It's started to draw the hate of my play group though. I have to burn them out before they can gang up on me.

Probably Cryptolith Rite? =)

Mogg Infestation and lots of tokens, plus Purpheros is a win con. You'll have a bunch of tokens already out, easy to do with a deck like this, Infest yourself, Purpheros trigger for the win. Rude Awakening helps shorten this win con. I also recommend more draw such as Greater Good. Boartusk Liege makes greater good hurt less plus makes weenies a defensive threat. Cool deck, it reminds me of my very first EDH deck which I have been considering putting back together.

Crivaro and Walkman, great suggestions! I hadn't thought of them. You're right that Purphoros, God of the Forge is a wincon that I forgot to mention in my win conditions section. I see how Mogg Infestation would work with Purphoros, but how would Rude Awakening? The lands would already be in play so turning them into 2/2 creatures wouldn't trigger Purphoros' ETB ability, would it? I definitely want to make room for both of these cards in the deck.

I like the idea of Cryptolith Rite. It could help my X burn spells a lot.

I agree that the deck could use more card draw. I'm just not sure about Greater Good in here because most of my creatures will be so small. Yes, an anthem card like Boartusk Liege would help, but do I want to be devoting card slots to anthem effects in a burn deck? I'm not sure.

Any ideas what I should take out to make room for Mogg Infestation, Rude Awakening, and Cryptolith Rite?

Thanks again for the suggestions! :)

Impact temors and outpost siege? Just a thought given the token gen.

Hyperalgialysis, Definitely like the look of Impact Tremors. Kinda like a second Purphoros. Outpost Siege may work a little too slowly (it only damages one player at a time), but I'll consider it! Thanks :)

The way Rude Awakening would work is that you'd have a ton of lands to tap for mana, them in to creatures. Mogg Infestation them to turn them in to Goblins, trigger Purphoros. It's one more way to make creatures to lose to Mogg Infestation when you don't have 20 tokens to lose but 10 tokens and 10 land could be a much quicker strategy. Rude Awakening is just a flexible card to have. It can be a threat after a Wrath and there's no creatures on the field. It could be that much needed mana boost if you are short because of poor draw... just an idea. =)

Walkman, I like it! I'll definitely add it. Could also be fun to sac those creature lands to Goblin Bombardment to finish off the last opponent

I think you could really take advantage of something like more recursion, I only see one in there. Perhaps an Eternal Witness plus its a cheap body for Cryptolith Rite. You are running green and red and need a tutor. You need to take some advantage of your small creature base: Worldly Tutor to make sure you get Purphoros or Craterhoof at least in your hands.

My Wort deck ran Memory Jar for when I had a ton of mana and nothing really in my hands. Recur it, repeat.

Liking his deck! good job!

Walkman, I definitely see the benefit of Worldly Tutor in here since Craterhoof and Purphoros are key win cons. I'm not sure about Eternal Witness in this deck (I have her in every other green deck). Regrowth, Verdant Confluence, and Mizzix's Mastery are my recursion cards. Since they are sorceries I can copy them. I'll think about her still though. Memory Jar definitely looks like a creative option.

Anything that you think should come out of the deck to make room?

Since you use Hull Breach... how about Decimate?

Prepare. I have a huge soft spot for Wort, and while I'm passionate about certain card choices, I've seen that you have a different flavor for it that I very much appreciate. +1.

That being said, some suggestions;

-You're vastly undervaluing the power of Regrowth effects in Wort. If you ever draw two of them, it's a dangerous and damn near lethal loop, as each Regrowth gets you the best spell in your yard. I prefer Recollect and Revive as bases, and Restock and Nostalgic Dreams (only really great if your hand's crap or you can conspire it to get back what you're discarding here, something you can in fact do) as the hyper-value/techy versions.

-Sylvan Offering is vastly superior to Tempt with Vengeance, imo. Unless you care about giving a bunch of 1/1's haste, you're getting much more bang for your buck here, as most people won't take the tempting offer, which makes it worse than getting the giant X/X (netting one additional token on X mana), and no one will attack you after you've just given them what they want; tokens en masse or a massive beater. It also helps you kill the problem player dead if you aren't that player.

-Decimate and Volcanic Offering are absolutely freakin' brutal in Wort, especially the latter. It's unreal the amount of damage a conspired Offering does; I've single-handedly had players concede to it. The best part: You don't even need different targets; you can simply have your copies target the same thing as the original, and as long as some of the original copies' targets are still legal, it'll resolve.

-Primal Growth, Harrow and Crop Rotation each net you a mana when you conspire them. I notice Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle is absent from your list, but the Rotation finds you your Kessig Wolf Run, which is similarly impactful.

-Artifact Mutation may seem unassuming, but at the worst it's a Raise the Alarm that kills two Sol Rings, which is still incredible value. Honestly, any more than 2 tokens makes this thing just absolutely insane. I've double-targeted a Darksteel Forge with this before dropping Craterhoof, hilariously enough.

-Similarly, Tormenting Voice may seem rather underwhelming on paper, but I promise in practice that drawing 4 cards for 2 mana and discarding a land is incredibly good.

-I can see your plan of shotgunning a ton of mana into a big spell is your game. Mana Geyser, Citanul Hierophants (in addition to the Cryptolith Rites in your maybeboard) and Vitalize may be up your alley. Empty the Warrens and Ignite Memories are great as well, imo.

-Since your list is very token-oriented, perhaps a Beastmaster Ascension might be something to consider.

Here's my list. It's much more control-oriented, but it might provide some ideas for you outside of what I've suggested.

I see some cards in here I haven't been 100% sold on and I'd like your opinion on them to bounce back and maybe get the push I need to try them. How are Burn at the Stake, Guttersnipe and Young Pyromancer?

McMayhem, thanks for all your thoughtful suggestions. To answer your question at the end of your comment, Burn at the Stake and Guttersnipe work great in here. They can act as surprise finishers. Young Pyromancer is OK. He brings value over the course of the game. I would consider cutting him though.

I like the look of Harrow and Crop Rotation in here. I think they'd do great. I'llalso try to increase the amount of recursion in the deck. Restock conspired looks like a lot of fun.

Normally I agree that Sylvan Offering is superior than Tempt with Vengeance. However, my play group hates on Wort so much that I find I DO need haste in order to swing right away. With Sylvan offering, they won't care that I am giving one of them tokens. They will still come after me and board wipe those tokens away. Still, I'll consider Sylvan offering since you suggest it so highly.

Mana geyser definitely belongs in my deck. It would help my burn spells tremendously. I can see a spot for tormenting voice too to help with card draw.

I checked out your deck and upvoted :)

Any suggestions on what I can cut? Please keep in mind I do want to keep it a token themed deck. Thanks!

Boundless Realms
Dragon Fodder
Krenko's Command
Rampant Growth
Verdant Confluence
Pyromancer's Goggles
Courser of Kruphix
Elvish Mystic
Fire Servant
Increasing Vengeance
Starstorm
Dictate of the Twin Gods

Those are what I'd cut, personally.

I really like this deck, If I were too add anything it would probably be Goblin Game. Seeing that twice in a row would be hilarious.

Boodog11, that card looks funny :)

McMayhem, I am going to the store on Thursday to pick up some of those suggestions. Mana geyser and Harrow have already been put in the deck.

McMayhem, I picked up a Tormenting Voice today and threw it in the deck. Also added Manamorphose for more card draw. With Tormenting Voice, Harrow, Mana Geyser, and Restock in there now, a good part of the deck has been inspired by your suggestions. Thanks again.

It seems like you need to protect Wort, the Raidmother, Maybe Swiftfoot Boots?

MegaMatt13 says... #21

Thanks for the suggestion, dishmond. I've thought about using Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves. My deck is so light on creature cards I guess they would primarily be to protect Wort. I'll playtest with them a bit.

I was thinking, a little control might go a long way as well. Some of the best red control are Price of Glory and Shivan Harvest. You'd have the tokens to sac to slow your opponents down and they'd think twice about countering your stuff at risk of loosing more lands. Just a little more options there for you. You are going to be a target certainly, so consider ways to use those takens via more sac outlet in response to a Wrath. Goblin Bombardment isn't a bad option but you still might be lacking on sac outlets. Remember, you have zero non-creature tutors to pick from.

Last but not least: Mosswort Bridge and Tooth and Nail are fantastic options in a low creature, high resource deck. This will ensure you will get Createrhoof AND (pick your poison) out on the same turn, plus, if you mosswort TnN, boom...

Thanks for the suggestions, Walkman. Tooth and nail in particular interests me... Craterhoof and avenger of Zendikar... Evil laughter.

Great deck! Wort always +1.

Some suggestions:

  1. Earthcraft - Make every token a manadork.
  2. Perilous Forays - Ramp some more
  3. Fresh Meat - You kill my tokens? I double them and now they are 3/3
  4. Mycoloth - invest, them boom! (see the combo with Fresh Meat? :))
