Wildborn Raging Landfall (Actual)

Commander / EDH Budget Ramp RG (Gruul)

Mj3913

Description

This is the actual deck, what I own. See here for the concept of where I want this to go. Maybe board was huge and cluttery so made this copy to show between what's real and not.

Mina and Denn offer trample to the big baddies who need it. The extra land per turn helps us get them out faster as well as benefits landfall triggers. Debating between dragon sub-theme or tokens.

As always, thanks for your interest and suggestions, and leave a +1 if you like. Also, if its good enough for a folder, it's good enough for a vote. Happy Tapping!

If you have a player who plays a lot of spells in one turn, Sprouting Vines can fetch as much as a Seek the Horizon during an opponent's turn, at instant speed too, you can leave mana open.

Sporemound is a bit slow, but it allows for more tokens.

Seer's Sundial lets you consistently draw cards, as does Tireless Tracker.

Deck looks solid though! How does it play?

Great suggestions, thanks.

The deck kinda plays like a steam engine. Slow to start, but once it gains moment, it runs over anything in the way. Lots of interactions, which can be hard to keep track of but its very fun.

If you are intending to build a landfall deck, have you considered playing Omnath, Locus of Rage as the commander and Mina/Denn in the 99? It seems to me like it's easier to ramp than dig through your deck for good landfall effects.

Regardless, one of the best Landfall effects in the game is Avenger of Zendikar. Might find a home here :)

Have you tried Collective Voyage or Boundless Realms? Both are very fast land ramp options.

Horn of Greed gives you a lot of land ramp: usually twice as much as any of your opponents.

You might also find some good options if you look up Azusa, Lost but Seeking decks: they're well-adapted to close out games with a lot of mana.

Happy deckbuilding!

I have thought about trying it, I just kind of feel he's expensive and a big target. MnD doesn't usually become a target until they realize what's happening.

In the early stages of creation I thought of a plant token sub theme, it just didn't have enough other plant types to go with it. Still, avenger could be useful I suppose. Boundless realms is nice, the others... I'm usually against benefitting others, but I see where they could be useful. Azuza would be a long term investment for me.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Looks like your deck is going in the right direction, but needs a little focusing. With the amount of ramp you can potentially pack, you could take advantage of some beefier creatures than the ones you're using now. Take Shockmaw Dragon for instance: if you're going for something beefy to work as a threat, Siege Dragon does a better job of threatening the board and deals more damage (albeit to non-flying creatures only). Sol Ring and Darksteel Ingot are good cards for decks that need the help with their mana pool, but as it is I don't see you needing a lot of artifact ramp when you can just slam lands for days with your commander. Stock up on some more land ramp cards instead. As for wincons, Genesis Wave is always an option, especially with Fires of Yavimaya or its cousin, Fervor. Primordial Hydra, Mana-Charged Dragon, Fireball and Helix Pinnacle are also viable wincons in a deck like this. Good luck!

Good call on the Ring/Ingot... I just kinda throw them in everything I make as staples and don't really think about them after that. Regarding Genesis Wave.. do lands count in said 'Any number of permanent cards X or less'? That would be amazing with landfall effects. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

As far as I'm aware, lands are permanent cards with CMC 0. Even more ramp!
