So Cabal Stronghold and Dread Shade have been spoiled for Dominaria, and I immediately had to make a mono-black Brawl deck. I haven't played this yet; list is not final.

Based on my commander (Whisper, Blood Liturgist), the goal is pretty simple: sacrifice small creatures to cheat out big creatures for zero mana. Mono black is a challenge to work with; I wonder if this build can compete with the raw card power of multicolored decks. Cabal Stronghold might be good, but I don't have many ways to abuse it beyond Torment of Hailfire. I really want a Corrupt or a Consume Spirit, but that's Standard for you.

Mono Black vs. Scarab God?

I want to see if this is viable in a format with The Scarab God, or if it's just an inferior version. Unlike TSG, Whisper has the ability to bring things back more than once. I try to abuse this with creatures with ETB or death triggers. Every turn, I can recycle something and get more value. Of course, if you untap with TSG, you usually win the game. If you untap with Whisper, you just get to start up the durdle engine. Maybe this will be better in multiplayer, as the hate will go towards the players with the more fearsome commanders. Or maybe I'll attract a lot of graveyard hate as soon as they see Whisper in the command zone. Who knows? It's kind of awkward that TSG hoses my whole plan (by exiling my payoff creatures from the yard) but I have a few exile effects to deal with it. Also, Whisper comes down faster than TSG, and doesn't cost any mana to use.

Notes for Future Revisions:

• Right now there's no boardwipes even though I guess I'm a control deck, because I need to keep a few creatures in play to make my engine work.
• Maybe I could use more card draw?
• I'd like more mana sinks, since the main advantage of Whisper is that you get to reanimate for no mana.
• I wonder if my curve should be slightly higher overall.
• Sibsig Host is supposed to be Windgrace Acolyte (I guess it's not on here yet)
• more lands?
