When Iron Man goes bankrupt

Commander / EDH

I built this deck for our local budget commander league. Basically, you can play anything as long as your entire isn't worth more than 40$. We use mtggoldfish's deck pricer, allowing for a 1$ variance between weeks. If your deck spikes above that, you have to make cuts :).

Starke is a little-known legend from the tempest expansion. He'll deal with a lot of problems.... for a price. See, Starke has this tendency to be disloyal and betray those he serves. Thankfully, he's okay with backstabbing people you tell him to backstab as long as you have em on his good side first. So basically to get starke to do your dirty work, you need to threaten whoever you want dead until they give in and join your side temporarily. Then you tell them to hit their former masters and just before they think they'll be released from your grasp, Starke is there to blow them up. And because Starke thinks he's killing YOUR dudes, he stays there. Starke loves his backstabbings.

Well, that's when everything goes well. Sometimes Starke needs a reminder of who's in charge. You'll tell starke to kill something and just before he turns his coat you'll just go ahead and sacrifice him to a host of things available. Send him to the trading post to pick up cigarettes. Send him to the high market to pick up some weed. No, he'll meet a tragic accident on the way there and will not make it back. It's all good though, as soon as he's back from the command zone he'll be ready to backstab people for you again.

Now, sometimes you might want to feel generous. Sometimes you just want to give poor old Starke a break. Just ask your friendly bazaar trader to talk some sense into your threatened victims. He's really good at deals. He once convinced Ulamog himself to switch sides permanently. Not bad for a goblin. There's also homeward path. All paths lead home, and even Starke can't resist a bit of homesickness. So he'll gladly come back into the fold for some of his grandma's apple pie. He really loves his grandma.

And that's pretty much it. Every red wizard's best friend, the goblin welder, sometimes steps in to help you because let's face it, starke is kind of a deadbeat and he can't be relied on too much. As an added bonus, the welder won't say anythimng about the raw materials he uses. As long as that sol ring is an artifact, it doesn't matter if it didnt belong to you. He'll gladly turn it into a big ball of myrs for you. However that works. Goblins, man.
