Whats the counter to falling asleep???

Standard* Aggro B/R/G (Jund) Counters Dragons

inevanable Score: 15

Description

Creatures with counters!!! Creatures with counters!!! my, oh my, these Creatures with counters!!!

So i found i had a play set of slumbering dragon and started wondering how i could make it insane. This is what i have come up with so far. Let me know if you can think of any good additions to the deck and i will certainly consider it.

as usual any +1's or comments are greatly appreciated.

changing again throwing in Farseek over the Chromatic Lantern although i did feel the lantern was a great fit in the deck Farseek may be just too good to pass up. also changing the mana base a bit to try and fit my curve and throwing in a couple of other big creatures... Predator Ooze and Olivia Voldaren here's to hoping...

Black for white — Oct. 4, 2012

Like any good deck when you substitute black for white this went from good to just plain evil. i expect to update it soon with some additional removal and possibly some alternate cards to protect my guys once out there what with all the removal available in rtr. newho i changed the deck some -2Mikaeus, the Lunarch -2 Gavony Township , +4 Corpsejack Menace as well as subbing out the appropriate lands... should be fun.

DarthTrevyn says... #1

I am loving the idea! I was trying to think of a way to Slumbering Dragon and it seems that you have found it! +1 from me!

If it fits in for you with the mana curve I suggest you should get one or two Ajani, Caller of the Pride

inevanable says... #3

I am definately considering Ajani, Caller of the Pride the only difficulty is the 2 white but i will see what i can do.

really like this deck +1, have you thought about Bond Beetle or Timberland Guide ?

September 6, 2012 1:41 p.m.

brokenbuilder says... #5

GobOnThese thanks for the +1 definately thought about the Bond Beetle probably swap him in post rotation for the Birds of Paradise . hadn't remembered Timberland Guide but its a consideration not sure which i would pull.

yeah that last comment was from me my buddy brokenbuilder and i were checking out some stuff on here but thanks again.

No problem, would love to hear how this does at fnm

jackledaman says... #8

I like the idea of this deck, but I'm not quite convinced white is needed. Birds of Paradise is a mana fixer, which wouldn't be needed with two colors. The only truly usefull white card is Oblivion Ring , and there is red removal, like Flames of the Firebrand .

loving the comments, thanks a bunch. I took this down to a local shop last night for a free tourney and placed 5th by breakers though i was tied for 3rd with a 3-1 record. i ended up putting in a Batterskull and had phenomenal results with it helping me win three different games. i may end up adding a second one also. i also added Triumph of Ferocity for card draw. keeping the Naturalize for the sideboard. the only loss came against a grixis control deck running several Ratchet Bomb which i found was devastating against this deck. i sideboarded in 4xOblivion Ring and 2x Naturalize to win game 2 but then got mana screwed in game 3 for my only loss. all in all though i had a great tourney.jackledaman i'm very happy with white for both Oblivion Ring ,Gavony Township and for Mikaeus, the Lunarch which combo'd awesome with my main threats Primordial Hydra and Slumbering Dragon not to mention Falkenrath Exterminator which doubles as a great red removal. Honestly the original deck did not include white but the splash has proven invaluable.

September 7, 2012 1:23 p.m.

GobOnThese says... #10

I think the splash for white is essential, Gavony Township and Mikaeus, the Lunarch have synergy with almost every single creature in the deck and Oblivion Ring takes care of planes walkers and the like. I can see Ratchet Bomb being a problem for the deck, if you have any Stony Silence it really hoses ratchet bomb, swords and other batterskulls

September 7, 2012 1:38 p.m.

inevanable says... #11

Nice call GobOnThese i will consider grabbing and sideboarding some of those Stony Silence imediately. and thanks for the agreement i too love the synergy the white splash gives...

I like this, and have a version myself that uses R/G Sleeper and testing at tourney play right now shows that its not quite as dangerous as the current top decks, but post rotation could be very big. Not to mention some changes from the RtR cards coming in.

+1 btw

Rayenous says... #14

I have a deck that has some similarities, though I didn't go quite as full tilt with the counters. However, both our decks seem to be greatly improved by a splash of white, while keeping constant pressure by always having a threat on the table. ( I love casting a 1/1 Hydra on turn 2... making an opponent use removal, and then casting a 2/2 Hydra next turn, or one of my planeswalkers... once they know the deck, they even struggle to remove the dragons as soon as they hit the table.)

I added Stuffy Doll as an alternate win condition, using Blasphemous Act for massive damage and a board clearing device. (Stuffy makes a great target for +1/+1 counters.)

I was considering a Mikaeus, the Lunarch , but since I couldn't get my hands on one, I went with Ajani, Caller of the Pride . The +1 goes well with the deck, and the -3 can be overpowered on a Hydra with 10+ counters on it. Now that Ajani is in there, I don't think I'd remove him for a Mikaeus... would probably just remove an card:Avacyn's Pilgrim

September 16, 2012 6:24 p.m.

inevanable says... #15

hmmm Rayenous i enjoy the idea of a stuffy doll as an alternate win con. and i definately agree Ajani, Caller of the Pride makes for a great card in the deck. with his +1 and -3 abilities both providing great synergy. I love the splash of white in this deck though i have to say even to myself that come RTR i will probably remove white for black. it just has some killer cards coming to it for this deck. Corpsejack Menace being the first to come to mind. can't wait that for sure anyways thanks for the comment.

daknik says... #16

There is so much power in this deck +1. I have been playing with a similar build with a few modifications.Predator Ooze because he builds counters very quickly by himself and the indestructible helps him avoid most removal. The other card I have been playing with is Reverberate to double up on an Increasing Savagery or Blessings of Nature for two extra mana or to take your opponents removal spells and send it back at them.

September 18, 2012 9:58 a.m.

inevanable says... #17

hmmm daknik.. very interesting idea with the Reverberate . i like it. and thanks for the +1. i am working on a new deck idea for Predator Ooze which i may try out this week. we will have to see how it does. but thanks again for the comments.

i always wanted to make a deck with Slumbering Dragon + Curse of the Nightly Hunt , just my 2 cents

September 25, 2012 9:09 a.m.

inevanable says... #19

you should try it out toxonic though truth be told there are very few things better than attacking second turn with a 8/8 flyer. :o)

October 5, 2012 10:29 a.m.

toxonic says... #20

Yeh i thought it might be interesting, i was thinking using too many Fog s and that combo, then Fling

October 5, 2012 11:42 a.m.

inevanable says... #21

hahaha... it'd be fun that's for sure.. great for a casual play deck..

October 5, 2012 2:22 p.m.

You should update this for Standard!!!

October 13, 2012 11:13 a.m.

Demarge says... #23

yes a great many cards of this deck rotated out so cards like Corpsejack Menace could be in this deck. All cards from the scars block (except Arrest I guess) rotated and all the cards in m12 that weren't reprinted in m13.

October 13, 2012 11:23 a.m.

I could see Rancor , Arbor Elf , and maybe Farseek doing well.

Hmm... great creature for counters? Predator Ooze

October 15, 2012 10:11 a.m.

inevanable says... #28

Vos_Is_Boss i know just not sure if i can swing it with the 3 green that being said i have 2 set aside and will be testing them in soon what should i take out for it??

October 15, 2012 1:37 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #29

Haha, i know the mana swing may be iffy, That's why I'm thinking about a black/green deck for him, and the counter shenanigans. I'm wondering if the Chromatic Lantern is necessary. However... I may suggest Falkenrath Exterminator to go bye bye, or at least 2 of them for 2 Predator Ooze . In the end... playing an ooze mid game isn't terrible. Getting him out on turn 3 always wanted, but not needed.

October 15, 2012 2:05 p.m.

toxonic says... #30

A late game Predator Ooze may even be better, due to all the Tragic Slip s seeing play atm, once thats gone then the ooze is pretty safe

October 15, 2012 2:10 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #31

if they cant kill your Primordial Hydra time, they sure as hell wont kill your Predator Ooze

October 15, 2012 2:14 p.m.

inevanable says... #32

amen i hear you on the Predator Ooze more or less being awesome due to his indestructableness... the lantern probably isn't necessary but i have had luck with it thus far and Falkenrath Exterminator is unreal in this deck. he is just amazing removal knocking out my opponents ramp creatures early and then bigger things late game swinging with a 6/6 exterminator that can kill the blockers before it even attacks is just wrong..

October 15, 2012 3:41 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #33

If the shoe fits, keep using the Falkenrath Exterminator . I can honestly say ive never played with it, because the creature only target turned me off a bit. However, you make it sound fun. The way i made my suggestion, i was judging the fact to how vulnerable they are to removal. Of course, forcing a removal spell on a cheap creature is great too! Essentially, every creature in this deck needs to be removed or they are dead :D

October 15, 2012 4:27 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #34

Shit, i cant believe i forgot about Rancor ... Rancor is good. dont ignore Rancor ! OMG Rancor !!!

October 15, 2012 4:28 p.m.

inevanable says... #35

hahahah... yeah i too love my Rancor but again what is removed... the guys get so big and the Primordial Hydra already tramples the Slumbering Dragon flies. but ahhhh so much to put in here and so little room...

October 16, 2012 9:30 a.m.

inevanable says... #36

oh. not to mention Champion of Lambholt should get everyone through...

October 16, 2012 9:31 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #37

True, but a reoccurring trample effect shouldn't be forgotten. Especially on Champion of Lambholt

as you said...

So much fun, so little room.

October 16, 2012 1:25 p.m.

inevanable says... #38

Thanks Vos_Is_Boss i really appreciate the help i am going to try this out this thurs at a tourney and maybe on fri at a more competitive one as well. we'll see how it goes.

knownasnieves says... #39

Great synergy and gave me the idea to use my lambholt again in my counter deck. Any way +1 from me this deck is awesome .

Justin2543 says... #40

Drop the Chromatic Lantern s for Farseek . Getting ahead with availability of mana while also thinning out your deck really puts you in the driver's seat in a game. Also, 4 Slaughter Games ? 2 is good and 3 is pushing it, You are already going to hit their biggest win-con with the first one, the second puts you really behind in tempo because of how much mana you are investing that doesn't immediately affect current board-state. Also, get rid of the Naturalize s. Never run naturalize. Ever. Run Rakdos Charm instead and you have any artifacts or enchantments dealt with thanks to your Charms. And the exile effect from Rakdos Charm is too good to ignore as well, especially considering you don't run Deathrite Shaman .

October 26, 2012 10:40 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #41

Rakdos Charm and or Golgari Charm are the solutions to artifacts and enchantments for you. They have 6 different abilities being only 2 cards. I agree with Justin2543 in that regard. However, i think enchantments are scarier than artifacts right now. Golgari Charm mainboard (if you must) all the way.

Also, Farseek ?? You kidding me?! SO GOOD if you've got the shock lands. SOOO GOOD. Fixes any and all mana problems. Why is jund so good right now? Farseek ! with 2 guilds in the jund deck, the shock lands are abundant and always available right now.

1) You can easily get that 3rd green source for Predator Ooze 2) Its a ramp spell for a turn 3 Increasing Savagery 3) its a ramp spell to FLASHBACK Increasing Savagery

Just think of it as a Rampant Growth that gets your duals. pfft.

October 26, 2012 11:05 a.m.

DarthTrevyn says... #42

Love the fact you went from Naya to Jund! Looks brutal! How well would you say this beast plays?

October 26, 2012 11:41 a.m.

plays unbelievably well have had as good as turn 3 wins on occasion i definately hear everyone on farseek and i too am sold on the charms just haven't updated alot...

Fleetfiend says... #44

This deck is in several incorrect hubs. It may have been correct when you submitted it, but you should probably change it. It's now Jund, not Naya, and there is no Kessig Wolf Run in the deck so it wouldn't make sense to call it Wolf Run Ramp. It's also not standard because of Overgrown Tomb .

I also don't understand the name. xD

But it's a pretty good deck. ;)

November 4, 2012 4:59 p.m.

Fleetfiend, check again sir, Overgrown Tomb is VERY MUCH a Standard card. It was reprinted in Return to Ravnica along with Steam Vents , Temple Garden , Blood Crypt , and Hallowed Fountain .

November 4, 2012 5:41 p.m.

inevanable says... #46

Sorry bout the Naya hub Fleetfiend i will change and the wolf run is definately back in here thanks for liking the deck.
