What do you mean "Bob Tribal"?

In the days of Grip the Top Commander Jared & I were brewing new decks constantly. While we shared a great deal of respect for eachothers' deckbuilding style, this didn't stop us from having favorite decks the other had built. Jared was a savant with , my favorite lists of his being Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder & Marchesa, the Black Rose. As we all do when a friend moves away, you miss them, and find a way to process or cope the feelings of loss. I, with his wishes, wanted to build a Marchesa list to remember him by. (Yes, that does kinda sound like he died, he did not, I am just being dramatic).

Initially my Marchesa list was very similar to it's inspiration, pulling out River Kelpie & Flayer of the Hatebound to end most games outside of combat. After a few weeks behind the deck I realized some of my best games were when I had two or three creatures out before casting Marchesa, while my worst games were when I, having the highest lifetotal, was on the throne and unable to "start the engine". In an attempt to alleviate both issues, I started looking to purchase my first ever copy of Dark Confidant , Bob Maher himself.

I walked directly from the glass counter to a playtable, shuffled up with friends and found Dark Confidant fairly early, he survived a lap around the table... here it was... Greatness at any cost... what would my first trigger be? It was Blasphemous Act ... and I learned a lesson.

I loved trading my lifetotal for card draw through my creatures, it felt as if it was exactly what the deck was meant to do. I went out of my way to pick up all the other "Bob" style affects I could get, and as a precaution to never "blasphemous act" myself again, I decided to implement a hard cut off after 4 cmc.

This extra deckbuilding restriction of 4cmc or less is actually a huge point of pride I hold for the deck. Having an extra restriction I felt made me be more flexible, and not lean on previous Mikaeus, the Unhallowed strats or looping wurncoil engine. The deck picked up an insane amount of speed, and plays as an aggressively resilient synergy machine!

I am currently trying to maintain the balance of having the deck be as powerful as possible, while also keeping the "Bob Tribal" meme alive, I feel so long as I'm running Dark Tutelage the deck will not be taken too seriously, and I appreciate that.

I have an entire deckbox set aside for "Great cards that could be in Marchesa, but I don't know what I would cut for them", so a few of the slots in the deck are experimental for the time being, they'll wheel around as certain cards under perform.

It's one of my favorite decks, absolutely proud of this one.
