What a HORRORble Night to Have a Curse

noodr NOMsquirrel

Creature (1)

My first ever deck was the dimir Consuming Aberration pre-built deck I got from Walmart. Ever since them, I've loved mill as a wincon.

My friend group is doing a budget tribal tourney and this is my attempt to fulfill that stipulation while reveling in the nostalgia that is dimir mill.

This a creature mill deck with horror beat down. Slam a Thing in the Ice  Flip and cast cheap mill cards to flip it. Artful Dodge combined with a Consuming Aberration = GG.

Rules are only creatures of one type - horrors - while keeping a $60 budget. Can tack on a sideboard under $10.

Let's get it on!

You pulled off a respectable tribal mill deck with a budget you didn't even fill! I am impressed, anyway, I'd suggest Chasm Skulker because it is a beast of a horror, but other than that, I have not nearly the amount of help to give you that I have for the rest of the four tribal decks with these regulations. This is because the deck looks really complete. I will say Hunted Horror is an interesting option, but sort of detrimental.

SynergyBuild, thank you! I was really stoked as I was building it to see a decent amount of synergies with the mill archetype and horrors. Shooting off cheap mill spells with a Thing in the Ice  Flip gets pretty legit! Chasm Skulker is pretty awesome. Especially with Thought Scour. I was pretty pleased with how the deck filled out; the only thing being the number of lands. I might go up depending on how crucial hitting a t5 aberration is. Thanks for the kind words!

Weirdly, your deck should have no problem hitting lands. 21 means around about a thrid of your deck are lands, leading to ~2-3 lands in openning hand. So you hit both of your first 2 land drops off of openner, but with just the normal draw per turn, and a another draw if you happened to go second, you will consistently hit lands on your first 3-4 turns without any card draw in the deck. Not getting into the math of predicting the likelyhood of board state if you have Thought Scours in hand and scry from Temple of Deceit if you will cast it, but 4 land drops in your first 4 turns is very high. On the fifth turn it is very slightly under 1/3 of the time you will get it. It is more likely that you do not have a Consuming Aberration in hand than it is you won't have the mana to cast it.
