Current Test Cards —Jan. 27, 2020

Oath of Chandra > Oath of Ajani

Elvish Mystic > Wild Cantor

Also trying to find a better fit for the Derevi, Empyrial Tactician slot. Considered Tymna the Weaver but it doesn't seem much better or worse.

why does Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger beat out other cards in the two mana spot? It doesn't seem bad, but I am confused as to why making your opponents discard one is better than an engine like Search for Azcanta  Flip, Gallia of the Endless Dance or Thrasios, Triton Hero. Nin, the Pain Artist might also be good there.

Fishslapper so Search didn't make the cut for a few reasons. We have a lot of 2 CMC targets already that are better and more effective at doing what we want to be doing, and we also have a LOT of Legendary targets already which doesn't really help us in getting to the win. Thrasios was in an earlier version of the deck, but cutting that happened when I cut the infinite mana generators. Through testing I found that infinite mana doesn't really make our win any easier to obtain, so I cut all the pieces that work with that to help add to deck consistency and add more interactive pieces. Kroxa hits a lot of points that we want to be at. (1) It helps break parity, (2) its hard to permanently remove. The parity breaking and the consistency of it really made it much more appealing to play than some of the other options in that slot. Like I said in the primer, Tymna is a maybeboard card because her value is diminished by not being a consistent board presence. Kroxa is able to be consistent, while also giving us an advantage. Thanks for attending my Ted Talk XD

Why no bolas' citadel?

Have you tried the twins as a 3 mana planes walker? They pump sisay +4/+2

bmbowdish Neither of those cards made the list because neither really push our deck's goal. The ultimate goal is to land a LabJace and then Consult for the win, and to use the Legendary permanents we fetch to help control the boardstate. Citadel and the Twins are great, but they do not help us accomplish this goal. Citadel is also incredibly hard to curve into so it seems like a waste of a slot to me, especially when our deck is not built around that card as a win.
