Dakmor Salvage with Raven's Crime is an amazing engine.

Awesome build. I really dig 8rack type decks. Care to offer any thoughts on Liliana's Love(ly rack)? It started out casual(all I play), but ever since I've joined this site, I've been trying to tweak my builds for competitiveness on the off chance I make it to some event in my meager free time. Thanks in advance = )

I'm not really sure about Dakmor Salvage with Blood Moon , it might not be such a great idea to keep adding non-basics. I also feel like I have enough discard without it.

why not Liliana's Caress or Megrim decks built like urs have been able to win straight up with meg and the caress by dropping a lilies caress 2 times and turn 3-4 by playing 1 blighting and a bolt to finish.

if you go off turn four Persecution (the card not this deck) wouldnt be bade either for a win con sideboard

Persecute would actually be pretty terrible in this deck. Since I only run 19 lands, by the time I get to 4 mana I've either already emptied their hand, or lost. I'm planning on trying to find room for Waste Not once it comes out, but I don't think Liliana's Caress or Megrim really measure up. I can already deal enough damage with The Rack and Shrieking Affliction , provided I'm able to empty their hand quick enough. I can't really afford to spend t2 or t3 without emptying threats. In competitive modern, if you haven't taken over the game by t4-t5, you've probably already lost.

I kinda dig this. I honestly don't think Waste Not has a place in 8 rack but it's interesting and gives some flexibility. But I must say the use of rix maadi dungeon palace may help me with answering my issue with dealing against Leyline of Sanctity . +1 from me. Would love input on my own Racking it up

Side note: Dakmor Salvage is a good idea. It never gets played what you do is you discard to pay ravens crimes retrace cost and then dredge 2 to draw it.

Why no Blackcleave Cliffs ?? Especially if you only have 19 lands.

I'm hesitant to add any more non basics because it will hurt my Blood Moon shenanigans game 2. I think I'm fine with the current number of dual lands, and I currently prefer Dragonskull Summit to Blackcleave Cliffs .

fair enough, great point

I HATE playing against these kinds of decks. They absolutely hose the decks I like to play. As long as you never sit across from me I think this one definitely deserves a +1.

Haha thanks! I'll try to avoid you at any events I play. haha

I'm considering adding a couple Burning Inquiry because of its awesome synergy with Waste Not . Thoughts?

July 2, 2014 11:18 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #14

I like that it also has the benefit of potentially dumping land cards that they may have been holding onto.

July 2, 2014 11:57 p.m.

kmcree says... #15

Yeah that is one upside. I would probably use it predominantly when my opponent's hand is empty, so that there is no chance of giving them any kind of card advantage. But it would basically guarantee me some combination of dudes, cards, and mana. Seems like a good deal.

APPLE01DOJ says... #16

I think that downside is it is only beneficial to play Burning Inquiry if Waste Not is online. Otherwise it's a wasted slot... ....and if there is 1 thing 8Rack needs it's a few more flex spots.

July 3, 2014 12:31 a.m.

kmcree says... #17

That's definitely the downside. I would only put in 1-2, and hopefully it wouldn't be a dead card too often.

burning inquiry is a good move I thinkwith a rack deck your opponent is usually top decking by turn 3 or 4, so they won't have anything to discard (except the 3 they draw) so it won't help them

obviously if you have a rack it will really help you out, but even if you don't it shouldn hurt you, and might help by dropping some of there potential answers into the graveyard.

how has bloodmoon been working out for you? 12 of your lands are nonbasic, can you really survive with so little black mana? if you want this to run blood moon you may need to either drop some nonbasics or potentially run basics in your sideboard.

kmcree says... #19

I haven't used Blood Moon in a game since adding the Lavaclaw Reaches . Before that, it usually worked out great. I'll have to see how well it works now. I'm thinking of adding another Swamp to get up to 20 lands, so we'll see. The thing is, the only thing in my deck that requires double black is Lili, so I can get away with only having 1-2 black sources on the board.

yeah I suppose that's true. in that case go for it!

Love a good rakdos deck, +1 of course :) Would suggest Slaughter Games (to stop some combos) and Sowing Salt (to stop Tron) on the sideboard.

Also, take a look a my deck Rakdos Infection and comment if you like. There are some sideboard options that might be useful.

kmcree says... #22

Thanks! I actually use Extirpate to fill both those roles. I can exile non basic lands or combo pieces, provided I can get 1 copy into the graveyard. It's a slight drawback, but it only costs me 1 mana instead of 4, and with only 19 lands 4 is just too much to ask in most games.

I will definitely check out your deck!

jchudz says... #23

I actually think you're better off running the Blackcleave Cliffs over the Dragonskull Summit since they enter untapped for the first 3 land drops and you only need 4 lands for Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace

Nice to see another rakdos 8-rack deck. My list is pretty close to yours with a bit different sideboard I guess.

Yeah I think you're probably right about the Blackcleave Cliffs . Originally when I had more Swamp s the Dragonskull Summit s worked really well. But now with fewer basics I think the Cliffs might make more sense.
