Wait, who's turn is it again? I'll just draw...

This is a Johnny deck, but it's not some tricky, slow, complex beast that needs a 5 card combo set to go off. The primary wincon is Psychosis Crawler + Rite of Replication and/or Progenitor Mimic or any other clones plus mass card draw. You want to use multiple Crawler triggers per card drawn, combined with massive card draw, to end the game. Laboratory Maniac is the backup, with Thassa, God of the Sea as the hailmary card.

Use Beacon of Tomorrows, Time Stretch, Time Warp, and Temporal Mastery to get extra turns. Extra strong with Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur on board. Use Beacon of Tomorrows + the card draw for X spells to chain turns together.

The goal is to get Kruphix on board ASAP, then setup for the a chain reaction turn. You'll want to try to setup a monster turn that doesn't end until you win, by adding mana for later turns with Kruphix and using the infinite hand space to aggressively draw for combo parts. Once you start to go off, you should ride a wave of card draw into more extra turns into more card draw until Psychosis Crawler kills everyone or Laboratory Maniac can trigger. You should always be looking to chain multiple turns together into a win. A great side effect of this is that if you do it early and get a counterspell or 2 off on things that can interrupt your combo at instant speed, you'll never have to worry about counters / removal because the enemy never untaps.

Noteable Cards

Archmage Ascension: Especially with a Consecrated Sphinx, this can get built to 6 counters really fast and can make this deck win as early as turn 6.

Elixir of Immortality: Can be very useful when you have Time Stretch and the like in the graveyard, and less than 30 cards in library. Keeps the combo going, pretty much.

Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix: with a Kiora's Follower on board, pretty much ends the game.

Thassa, God of the Sea: The "everything else looks shit" wincon. Use a creature with P/T=Cards in Hand for an unblockable one shot.

Venser's Journal: In case someone gets tricky and removes Kruphix, keeps your hand safe. Also loads of life gain in case you need to drag a game past your "real" turn 8.

Gaea's Herald (and it's extra copy): Useful if you feel you need to pay 2-3 mana to make sure Psychosis Crawler or Laboratory Maniac hit the board safely.

Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix: Arguably the most dangerous card in the deck. This is the card that by far and away can cause a turn 7 to turn into 4-5 extra turns, and 40+ cards drawn before anyone else at the table gets an upkeep.

Mosswort Bridge: This card can be quite useful to get spells like Time Stretch to a low mana cost and instant speed, making them more likely to resolve (ie. bait a counterspell with Time Warp, use the bridge to resolve Time Stretch instead)

Fabricate: Just read this card as Psychosis Crawler. It's there to ensure that between drawing an average of 30 cards in the first 6 turns and the extra copy, you always get the combo piece.

Praetor's Counsel: If you managed to start going off and you are sure your opponents don't have answers, this card can just end a game even without the full combo in hand. If you can get multiple Time Warp effects to resolve, you'll be able to recycle the ones you've cast back to your hand and double your money, per say. It's also the card that makes Laboratory Maniac the most viable, because you will most likely also recycle your Draw X spells and really dig through your library.

Notes / Worries

  1. Thinking about trimming the non essential creatures, like Chasm Skulker and Overbeing of Myth. Not sure the extra backup creatures are required with this much card draw happening. Chasm Skulker and Lifeblood Hydra are the two that feel worst to see in hand, but again, when you virtually always have 10+ cards in hand starting turn 5 it's rare not to have the "perfect" card for the moment. If those get countered / removed should I have backups? Or should I use the backup card slots for extra control cards to prevent being interrupted in the first place?

  2. Looking for more ideas about renewable Time Warp effects.

  3. Looking for more ideas about cards to protect my board. Something reliable and in colour with a Grand Abolisher effect would make me feel much better. The deck goes off virtually 100% of the time on or around turn 7 (if it's not offended) but it can be shutdown pretty quickly if people know what it's doing. 2-3 cards that made the deck safer would be traded for the cards from point 1 here.
