Varolz's Devilish, Preypiercing Shadow

Modern Aggro BRG (Jund) Theme/Gimmick

irmsilver

Sideboard

A Modern Jund Deck, focused on Varolz, the Scar-Striped, Vexing Devil, Death's Shadow, with the companion Obosh, the Preypiercer.

My cousin masonace4365 has been looking for ways to upgrade his Red Rover Red Rover Send Varolz Right Over deck for quite a while now. The main inspiration for the original build is that Varolz, the Scar-Striped gives each creature in your graveyard scavenge, which can be pretty awesome with creatures like Death's Shadow and Vexing Devil, who have high power for low CMC in exchange for their "drawbacks". So, I tried to come up with a more upgraded, up-to-date list.
...you really can't build a deck for ANYTHING nowadays without making use of a companion creature, for just how valuable having an "extra card" in your starting hand is, especially in more competitive formats like Modern.

So, enter Obosh, the Preypiercer.

Obosh, the Preypiercer demands our entire list contains only odd CMC cards among nonlands in our deck. Coincidentally, Varolz, the Scar-Striped, Death's Shadow, and Vexing Devil are all odd.

Also, while in play , Obosh, the Preypiercer will double the damage from everything odd CMC we control, meaning Death's Shadow can potentially attack for up to 24, and our opponent will have to choose to take EIGHT or let us keep a top-decked Vexing Devil. Of course, other burn spells like Lightning Bolt and Kolaghan's Command are also doubled while he's in play.

Vessel of Nascency: what I believed to be the best replacement for Grisely Salvage (RTR) in the original list, while having an odd CMC cost. I like how it gives us something to do on Turn 2, while also digging into the deck and filling the graveyard.

Bonecrusher Giant: Stomp is a nice Turn 2 play, the Giant a nice Turn 3 play, and as for general synergy, Varolz, the Scar-Striped can scavenge him for 3 to get four counters. He also shocks opponents whenever targeted by spells, but not by activated abilities. This means Varolz can scavenge onto him without burning us, but punish the opponent if they use removal in response.

Lightning Skelemental: This dude's pretty self explanatory. Attack, damage, discard, scavenge later, and if drawn later while Obosh, the Preypiercer is in play, swing for 12 with haste.

Suggestions are absolutely welcome/desperately appreciated. Especially on the Sideboard, as I personally don't really play modern very much, and could only guess from other lists what might be helpful in the current meta with this build.

Also, shoutout to masonace4365. Hope you like it. If not... ...well phooey to u.
