Want a deck that's cheap and fun to pilot while packing tons of synergies and damages? In that case you've come to the right place!

With average CMC well below 2 this deck is quite aggressive, but you aren't doomed if you can't seal the deal in 5 turns thanks to the heroic mechanic. Pump your heroes until you're out of +1/+1 counters and swing with powers previously only seen on green monsters, but this time you have the defensive and evasive options of blue and white! You can replace the shocklands for guildgates to drop the price of the deck drastically while still being playable, albeit a bit slower.

Card Rundown

Guys

  • Favored Hoplite: Basic heroic 1-drop with the added bonus of being able to block anything when you trigger said heroic.
  • Nyxborn Shieldmate: Another 1 mana for 1/2, but drawing this on turn 4 won't feel bad as you can bestow it to trigger heroic and buff your bros.
  • Hero of Iroas: 2/2 and heroic for 2 mana isn't bad, but making all your auras virtually free? Bestow Nyxborn Shieldmates for 1W and slam some Ordeal of Thassas and Stratus Walks for only U? Sign me up!
  • Battlewise Hoplite: While the manacost might seem a bit prohibitive, a free scry with every trigger is quite awesome to comb out anything that you'd rather not draw (no, I don't need a fifth Plains to kill him, thanks.)
  • Fabled Hero: A bit too expensive to have in starting hand and double white sucks, but double strike works so damn well with heroic (and Hidden Strings!) drawing one after a couple of turns is usually nice. A real removal magnet, but that's why we run 4 protects and 4 hexproofs, right? Get some evasion on him and you win the game in 3 turns.

Pump your guys

  • Hidden Strings: This card does everything. Cipher it on someone for free as you untap the mana used to cast it, tap down blockers to get a free ciphered copy or simply trigger some heroics, it's a must-have on every heroic deck. Combined with evasion, things can get out of control very fast for your opponent.
  • Ordeal of Thassa: Easiest +2/+2 ever, but you should have at least 1 counter on the creature you're trying to buff so you get the
  • Stratus Walk: Evasion and draw with a side dish of a triggered heroic, who even wants to block some lousy non-flying earthlings?
  • Aqueous Form: If you're afraid of heights or drawing cards, turning into water and filtering unwanted cards works too.

Defend your guys

  • Gods Willing: Easy to cast? Check. Triggers heroic? Check. Can be used aggressively? Check. Lets you dig for whatever you need? Check.
  • Mizzium Skin: No sweet scry nor evasion-on-demand, but it's still one of the best 1 mana no-you-don't cards in standard.

Sideboard

  • Judge's Familiar: Removal still ruining your games? This bird right here is willing to end his life to help your heroes, so you'd better honour him by swapping out some of your lesser warriors.
  • Triton Tactics: Removal not yet ruining your games? Then go ahead and replace some of your anti-removal protection with anti-creature combat tricks that double as multi-heroic triggers.
  • Retraction Helix: By default, this deck runs no removal. Need removal? Go with removal that also triggers heroic and has sweet synergy with Hidden Strings.
  • Rootborn Defenses: Screw Supreme Verdict, that's why.

Combos & Synergies

  • Untap the lands used to cast Hidden Strings to cast another spell so the cipher is essentially free.

  • Tap the sole defender your opponent might have to get a ciphered copy right off the bat.

  • Tap your opponent's untapped lands to force them to use a response or suck it up.

  • Double the strike = double the ciphered copies!

  • Having sideboarded in Retraction Helix, untap the retractor to bounce another permanent.

  • Slap Stratus Walk on Battlewise Hoplite to get a free scry before you draw (also works with Ordeal of Thassa).

  • 2v1 boardstate and you need get both attacks through? Even if it might seem counterintuitive, giving the opposing creature flying might just be the clutch play you need to seal the deal.
