Maybeboard

*WARNING*

This decklist is built as a casual, non-combo, synergistic version of the High Artificer Urza. This decklist is flavorful and powerful at the same time! I hope you enjoy this list as much as I do.

There will be a sideboard underneath the casual decklist for the cEDH cards that you can slot in when playing in a more competitive meta.

Having a Flavorful list means:

  • NO Phyrexian Cards . (i.e.) Jin Gitaxias, Phyrexian Metamorph, Consecrated Sphinx, Mirrodin Besieged, anything like that. As Urza's main conflict is with the artificial plane of Phyrexia, it would not be on flavor to have Urza command Phyrexian cards in this deck.
  • NO Counterspells (In the casual build.) I determined that having a complete counterspell package of 5-8 counterspells will make this deck amazing, consistent, and hard to do anything to fight back against for casual groups. However, I have added the counterspell: Spell Swindle from Ixalan. Spell Swindle is a 5 mana counterspell that allows us to create X treasure tokens for the spells CMC. We can either sacrifice the treasures to re-cast Urza or keep the treasures to tap when we have Urza out. Spell Swindle being a 5 mana counter is not super powerful and we must hold up 5 mana, so I have allowed it in this build.

There is 1 non-Game-winning combo in this deck:

I discovered this combo as it developed on the board. The combo insists of a few pieces and does not automatically win the game.

Etherium Sculptor (Artifacts cost 1 less)

Sensei's Divining Top (Taps to draw a card)

Mystic Forge (Allows us to cast an artifact off the top of our library)

Now, with these 3 cards we can draw our entire library by taping the Top to draw a card and replace it with the Top. Then we cast it for free off the top of our library. This will also give us cast triggers for as many cards are in our library until we hit the last piece of the puzzle:

Aetherflux Resevriour

With our booty ton of cast triggers, we will have gained enough life to blast our opponents. If this is not enough to finish off your opponents you will have drawn your entire deck and can now cast any spell you want as our combo cost no mana to do once it is set up.

CEDH Slot List:

Infinite Mana:

The goal of this cEDH deck is primarily to create infinite mana to cast ourselves out with Urza and win with either labman or Jace. We can also create an infinite Walking Ballista to ping people down or Hangerback Walker to make infinite creatures. How we get infinite mana:

  1. Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal
  2. Grand Architect + Pili-Pala
  3. Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth
  4. Rings of Brighthearth + Muddle the Mixture (Transmute x2 and search for Dramatic Scepter Combo.)
  5. Aphetto Alchemist + Illusionist's Bracers + Any mana rock
  6. Aphetto Alchemist + Illusionist's Bracers + Sensei’s Top (Draw our whole deck!)

Tappy-UnTappy:

In this section I will go over the oppressive stax pieces that are broken with Urza that we can either tap or leave untapped to hurt our opponents and help us.
  1. Howling Mine
  2. Winter Orb
  3. Static Orb
  4. Trinisphere
  5. Not a tap piece but a lock out combo:
  6. Karn, The Great Creator + Mycosynth Lattic

*WARNING* This cEDH version is not for the faint of heart and should be used with maximum caution when playing in a casual group, at a local game store, or with friends. (If you have any left after playing this deck.)

  • Urza was a planeswalker originating from Terisiare on Dominaria, best known for his millennia-long struggle with Yawgmoth and the plane of Phyrexia.
  • Urza has a long and complicated history. If you wish to know more I suggest reading the Artifact cycle of books centering around Urza Planeswalker.
  • Urza realized after he had destroyed his brother, Mishra, had been completely corrupted by the black mana from Phyrexia. This realization filled Urza with grief and pushed him to begin his lifelong hunt for retribution against Phyrexia, and its demonic ruler, Yawgmoth.
