Comments & Update V1.2 —May 31, 2019

The feedback so far has been very helpful! I've been doing some further testing and it was difficult to do, but I've made 3 cuts and 3 adds:

IN:

  • Capsize

  • Tribute Mage

  • Mishra's Bauble

OUT:

  • Jeweled Amulet

  • Jace, Wielder of Mysteries

  • Laboratory Maniac

The swap from the Amulet to the Bauble was made because we can cash in the Bauble to cantrip later on and both serve as a Mox Sapphire when Urza is in play.

Now I'll probably get alot of backlash for this one but I've cut the Lab Man/Jace line package because I found that while yes it can win the game once you go infinite, they were just dead draws whenever I drew them. They did nothing in my hand when I needed either action/protection/or a tutor or a combo piece. Which ended up slowing me down. I figured once we go infinite we are already winning so we didnt need win more cards that sat dead in our hands.

Capsize (while traditionally not very good in cEDH) serves as a win condition with infinite mana and a Trinisphere on board which makes it VERY hard for our opponents to come back from and at the very least serves as our weakest form of spot removal at 3 cmc, which is medium but the card synergizes with one of our main pieces of stax in the deck alongside our commander.

Tribute Mage is a cheap tutor for our Isochron Scepter, the more redundant copies of that the better (also grabs Grim Monolith for if we already have Power Artifact in hand or a Winter Orb of we need to slow down the board).

DrkNinja Mana Severance was most likely suggested for Urza, but have you guys ever thought about Goblin Charbelcher . This combo lets you kill anyone instantly and also reorder your library as you choose. I don't play Severance though because of cards like Mind Funeral in my playgroup.

Feel free to look through my deck in case it gives you any ideas. I know many combos as I'm a well versed Arcum Dagsson player. Please don't judge me :)

@Falkenstein: the cost of the deck can be lowered by about $4-5k with 4 simple card swaps...Tabernacle can be swapped for Pendrell Mists, Mishra Workshop for a basic, Timetwister for an Echo of Eons and the Transmute Artifact for a Tribute Mage. After that the most expensive cards are the mana crypt, mox diamond and the scalding Tarn

Falkenstein This is cEDH. If KailDaemon listed the deck as Budget EDH, then your point would be perfectly valid :) I think we want the best possible deck here, budget aside.

Also T/O's pricing is roughly 2.5k off from the actual price I found out. Timetwister and Tabernacle go for about 1k less on TCG

@Falkenstein ^ Oh also that budget includes the Masterpieces since cards usually default to them. My version of this deck which is roughly only maybe 10 cards different (no timetwister) is only 5k w/ masterpieces

I was drafting a deck and when I was initially going through, I ran Darksteel Relic , I then switched it to Mishra's Bauble , both over Jeweled Amulet since each can only really only make 1 blue mana. I get that the amulet can produce mana without Urza on board, but I think bauble is a stronger fit because it can cantrip itself if needed, and with Urza it is still basically a mox.

I guess im valuing the option of the card draw over what to me is a poor mana rock, what are your opions?

Love the build take a look at my take on Urza, I went with cEDH extra turns.

Urza Extra Turns has no budget

@Scheer218 very valid point on running the bauble over the amulet. The option to cantrip could be useful. Amulet has it upside for ramp but honestly I've very rarely had to use it as a bad coalition relic to ramp into anything. I'll give it a shot this FNM and see how it performs but think itll be better.
