Didnt you say, that scion of oona is better than delver? :)
There is something to be said for having a strong turn 1 play.
Is this still your deck which you would take to modern tournaments?
This deck really interests me and I think I'm going to try to build it...
Except I can't really afford Vendilion Clique s right now. Is there anything that I could use to replace it?
I understand there won't really be a replacement for its effect (which sucks, because it's super good), but Clique is also the second-hardest hitter aside from Delver of Secrets Flip . Is there anything else I could put in that slot to still have another reasonably powerful clock?
Thanks! Love your deck by the way, +1 from me.
Clique is unique in its effect. Perhaps you could play Scion of Oona? This is far from optimal though.
Yeah, I know, sadly. It probably would be just for FNM and silly things like that though.Scion of Oona seems good, i'll give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestion!
What do you think about Thassa as a 1- or 2-of? You're probably not going to hit 5 devotion unless you've boarded in the Spreading Seas, but U2 for scry 1 every turn and maybe make some Snapcasters unblockable is pretty nice. Gets rid of extra land, helps flip a late delver. Maybe in the Electrolyze slot?
Spending 3 mana on cards that don't impact the board is rough in modern. If I felt there was room for more 3 mana sorceries in the main deck I'd likely play a second sword.
Is this still the most current list that you're running at Modern events?
Modern events don't really exist in paper magic.
This is the list I play on MODO though yes.
so I'm really new to the game, well 5 months new and only played standard. I love your UR delver deck for modern and got all the pieces but the 2 cliques and the tarns, needless to say I'm intending to play it here shortly.
I'm not very good at side boarding and watching your 2 posted videos but was wondering if you'd stream line your boarding for me vs jund, tron, fish, as those are the largest portion of the meta in my area. I'm not sure what you'd take out and put in for those match ups, since your video doesn't cover fish or non blue tron.
I love your videos and picked up a lot of tips and some your play style such as spell pierce is better on the play and mana leak on the draw. I would like to thank you for posting them and ask that you please continue to stream/post more of these matches with your U/r fea deck
Check this out -- very descriptive sideboarding: http://articles.deckfactory.com/ur-fae-in-modern-post-tcgplayer-50k/
I'd like to try this in local tournaments, but I don't have the Misty rainforests and the swords yet. I'd like to see if I like the deck before splurging for those. Any thoughts on how you'd shift the manabase if it had 4 less blue fetches? I do have 4x Tarns + Mesas and SoFaF and War and Peace.
SoFaF is the best alternative sword.
If you are four misties short I'd likely play +1 vents +3 arid mesa
I'd rather play 2x Scion of Oona in that slot. Ninja lacks evasion.
I love the 3 sword change, but why did you not do 2 shadow and 1 Sofai side? seems good vs the UWR match up if you can get some draw/burn and protection from bolts/helix/commands. Regardless I'm gonna pick up 2 more shadow and lights now but was curious on why is all.
Light and Shadow's effect is arguably better against UWR. It also protects from the same number of removal spells as Fire and Ice (Path and Helix instead of Bolt and Helix).
You really want SoLaS against Bitterblossom decks. They can't beat the card.
oh that's neat! i've also noticed the Engineered Explosives. is that your answer to decks like affinity, bitterblossom, and merfolk?
EE is good against all of those things you listed as well as the plethora of 1 drops Zoo and Boggles play.
How do you feel about the matchup against the new blue moon deck. Im playing your deck at GP Richmond and the matchup looks pretty miserable : / Board in Engineered Explosives for the shackles since there is nothing else to get rid of them?
It's not that bad to be honest. I've been running this list, with the exception of the fire and Ice still in side board vs 3 light and shadows, and one blood moon main in the spot of remand #4 because the meta at my school for couple months. My school is tron (gr and some blue tron), murica, grixis control, scapeshift, WB tokens, zoo, soul sisters, infect, and fish; so dual land or special land reliant. So I fetch basic island t1, get anything red turn 2, turn 3 basic island, and normally jam sword if it's countered cool ups chance for moon, turn 4 play island or fetch into one, followed by a blood moon with pierce mana open.
I get that singleton blood moon often and shutting off my own lands is not a big deal If you got the 3 islands out. The deck is amazing in tempo and control aspects. My only point is if you get the right mana, you loose some tricks with muta/stuttersprite but you truly grind better than any deck I've seen.
You can out grind blood moon with ease by getting your 3 islands right away, allowing you to play everything in your deck (cliques) and one cantrip (assuming it's turn 4 and you have one "mountain" which is anything)
Love this deck and thanks again to the hoogster for brewing it and all the quick replies back to even my dumbest of questions!
I retract my statement, shackles and batterskull...This seems miserable if they resolve shackle, I didn't draw into any EExplosives for awhile the couple times I just tested it... I suggest you stick a delver T1 and hold back to not let shackles resolve. It's only a 2 of, so I have faith you can do it and grind it out vs a master.
Hey Jeff, I want to get into modern and your deck seems like one that I would enjoy greatly. The local meta consists primarily of birthing pod and hyper aggro strategies, what should I change in the main deck to compensate for this? Also, how do you feel about young pyromancer in the spellstutter sprite spot? Just thought I would mention this to see if your opinion of the card has changed since the summer.
PS- an u/r delver deck made it to the top modern deck section of the PT Born of The Gods coverage page (ctrl-f Young Pyromancer and you will find it). Thoughts?
Why have you moved from Delver to Scion and Ratchet Bomb instead of Engineered Explosives?
I honestly think Delver VS Scion is more of a style choice than anything in this shell. Delver lets you brute force wins/punish people who stumble, while Scion is more of a finesse card that lets you out play the other person more often.
Ratchet Bomb lets you tap out while keeping removal up. It is VERY good against Twin, where is EE is kind of lack luster there.
Ratchet Bomb is also better VS zoo, as you can throw it down, tick it up to one, but still have the option to slide up up further to kill Goyf later down the line.
How's batterskull been for you? Also I notice you switch from UR to URb quite often. What list do you prefer and why? ( I have personally had more luck with URb )
UR is more consistent I think. Batterskull catches a lot of people off guard.
Have you ever tried going all in on grixis using bobs mainboard. On the flip side have you also ever tried RUG delver splashing for Goyf?
Taking damage from lands hurts.
You don't want 2 mana sorcery speed threats in this deck.
Hey, Jeff! I've been playing this list recently, and I love it so far. What are your thoughts on a singleton Isochron Scepter in this deck?
So I see you have played Blood Moon, Spreading Seas, and now Stone Rain, yet I seem to remember you saying that stone rain was the most narrow use sideboard card and arguably the worst out of the three... so what makes you go back to it now?
Losing to tron feels really bad. Stonerain is best against Tron/Scapeshift.
Seas is best against man lands.
Blood Moon is good for cheesing bad players.
Is Molten Rain ok to use if a Misty is subbed for another mountain?
"Blood Moon is good for cheesing bad players" ...You are right my friend :) haha. Have you tried tec edge? I'm considering it because the U/W/x matchup is pretty bad and the others seem to walk into counter-magic really bad. Although it would be worse against B/G/x because it doesn't draw or cripple them enough. Maybe I'm wrong. Your thoughts?
I think Seas is the best option if shutting down man lands is your primary goal.
I would not play Molten Rain in this deck without at least 3 more red sources in the mana base.
