Part of me wants to cry out for delver the other part of me says leave it out and just go with the ascension. Knowing your love for the pyromancer's ascension I'd probably stick with that. I might consider Forked Bolt or Arc Trail though and Bonfire of the Damned . Overall though solid build.

I'm not terribly concerned with having to deal damage among two different creatures. If I run into an opponent who plays more creatures than I can handle with Path to Exile , then I can board in Volcanic Fallout .

As for Bonfire of the Damned : I just don't run enough mana to make it worth it.

I don't know what Thought Scour is doing for you.

What Sleight of Hand or Vapor Snag ?

Thought Scour puts some cards in my graveyard to turn on Pyromancer Ascension faster, plus it draws me a card.

Sleight of Hand is already in the deck.

Vapor Snag seems really unnecessary considering I have 11 removal spells with Lightning Bolt , Lightning Helix , and Path to Exile .

It seems to me that switching the numbers on Thought Scour and Serum Visions might be a good idea. Scour's upsides (instant, makes Ascension counters easier) seem superior.

I'm curious about the decision not to run Manamorphose . It seems unbelievable with an active Ascension. Also, it allows you to combo out with Noxious Revival very easily. It might not even be necessary to run Time Warp if Manamorphose tests well enough. A switch of -4 Serum Visions -2 Time Warp +2 Thought Scour +4 Manamorphose might be worth a try. Then again, I've never really played Pyro Ascension myself so this might be off base.

Not a bad deck. I can see how most areas are covered, but it might be a good idea to replace the counter spells with ones like Mana Leak

I'd rather use Remand and Spell Pierce over Mana Leak .

I've been on the fence with Manamorphose . I'll sleep on it.

I dropped Sleight of Hand and Time Warp for Manamorphose and an extra Thought Scour and Noxious Revival .

I gave it a few playtests and kept feeling like I wanted a Past in Flames . Otherwise Needle Drop , Gitaxian Probe (probably things youve already thought of).

The other thing is that at the end of the day you only have 8x burn spells. I feelt that this effected the consistency a little. Perhaps more.

It might be a tad extreme but perhaps Muddle the Mixture ...

Id almost question the need for white but it certainly wasnt effecting the consistency, it was more like perhaps another burn spell would have been nice.

+1 though a very interesting build!

I've been wavering on Past in Flames , even as a one of. However, I just don't have the mana to support it. Once I cast it, there isn't much I can.

Best case scenario is going infinite with Noxious Revival and Manamorphose , then milling my opponent with Thought Scour .

Woah, to be honest I completely missed the combo. Cool :-)

mafteechr says... #12

Most people do. I'm extremely familiar with the deck.

I'm not convinced that would work, paying the flashback cost for anything would exile after resolution not put it back in the grave, Unless I'm missing something.

mafteechr says... #14

There is no flashback in that infinite combo. I do not play Past in Flames

August 20, 2012 5:28 p.m.

I love Ascension and this looks to be a fine build. I'm sure you have thought of these cards, but I would love to know your reason for cutting them. Gitaxian Probe , Sleight of Hand ? Also I would probably try trimming some more lands for more cantrips, I'm not sure if you have tried this one out or not?

August 20, 2012 5:32 p.m.

mafteechr says... #16

I haven't played, yet, though I'm very familiar with Ascension in general. I'm hesitant to play less than 19 lands, but we'll see.

And to address your suggestions: what would you cut for Gitaxian Probe or Sleight of Hand ? I like Serum Visions better than both, but I'm open to an argument against that.

Training Grounds , Izzet Guildmage and Manamorphose is always a fun infinite combo.

mafteechr says... #18

Fun indeed, but obviously no room in this deck.

August 21, 2012 6:22 a.m.

IkePrahl says... #19

Right. This is a great deck though, +1.

August 21, 2012 6:32 a.m.

I love this Multiform structure.. So complex, yet so simple.. +1

August 22, 2012 11:28 a.m.

I tried to do some test games with the deck using the game sim, but the sim kept giving me terribly shuffled draws.

The reason I suggested cutting lands is that the deck only needs about 3 lands in any given game. And, cantrips actually add to your land count. So, cutting lands to add cantrips has very little effect on you seeing the lands you need. I would also suggest(after testing the deck in the sim) that you might try moving the Path to Exile s to the board to make more room for more cantrips, this is because you are a combo deck and you should not care what the other deck is doing, you just need to increase the consistency with which you find your Ascensions.

August 23, 2012 10:31 a.m.

I would also move the Spell Pierce s to the SB, as a combo deck you need to be aggressive, not defensive. I would replace them with 4 Gitaxian Probe , Probe lets you tap out for Ascension or nearly tap out and get it active as Probe is a "Free Spell".

mafteechr says... #23

I may drop a Spell Pierce and move the Path to Exile s to the sideboard for 4 Gitaxian Probe s. I don't want to go less than 7 counterspells main considering the meta (especially my local one).

August 23, 2012 10:54 a.m.

mafteechr says... #24

Rather, I'll keep the set of Spell Pierce s and drop an Island .

August 23, 2012 10:56 a.m.

What's your local meta?
