This deck got me to 12th in a PPTQ going 4-2. Wins were all 2-0, losses were 1-2.
I'm sick of trying to play control against the current Standard metagame, so I'm going back to being proactive with Thing in the Ice
.
Let's face it, we're the beatdown here. Looking for a turn 2 or 3 Thing in the Ice
to be able to trigger it to flip by turn 4 at least. Remember, if you target Thing in the Ice
with Titan's Strength, the flipped
Awoken Horror
will still have +3/+1.
So we're looking to the Thing to take down large chunks of life and then follow through with Stormchaser Mage to finish up. Alternately, we just use the Mage and the Abbot of Keral Keep to go wide and the prowess our way to victory. I have recently added
Sparkmage's Gambit
as a way to push through those pesky blockers with the
Awoken Horror
for lethal.
Sideboard will be a controlly affair still, because I love me my blue countermagic. Basically let's tune our counters to match the opponents decks. I'm still considering
Invasive Surgery
for the side, but Ramp is our best matchup and we'll usually have time to hit Negate anyway.
Siding out come of our creatures may seem risky, but the Abbots often come out for me, especially against control, where the Fevered Visions really benefit from removal rotting in their hand.
Sideboarding:
GW Tokens: in Disperse, Negate and
Sparkmage's Gambit
Bant Co-Co: in Dispel, Negate
4C Rites: in Disperse, Dispel
Seasons Past Control: in Fevered Visions, Dispel, Disperse
Esper Dragons: in Negate, Dispel, Fevered Visions
Ramp: in Negate,
Sparkmage's Gambit
Mirror: in Disperse, Dispel
Please, I'd love suggestions!
