This deck has changed a lot since I initially conceived it. I, first, took a U/R Delver shell (because I freaking love Young Pyromancer and wanted to use a deck that maximizes his value) and thought that I should add some storm cards to it (because--I thought--all of the copies would synergize with Pyromancer and they seemed to fit, considering the fact that this deck already wants to cast multiple spells in a single turn). However, I quickly realized that neither Grapeshot nor Pyromancer's Ascension actually work with Young Peezy, since the copies aren't cast...
Well, so much for that plan. Although, for awhile, I tried to hang onto Manamorphose for an additional cantrip that acts as a free Pyro trigger; I eventually realized that even that must go, as there are cantrips that give me much more important benefits (like being useful when Young Pyro isn't around).
So, finally, I decided that I needed to find a different unique touch to add to the U/R Delver list. Thus, I thought about two cards that stood out to me in the JOU spoilers and in playing with the set so far (both of which I have also seen Pro players suggest might be playable in Modern):
Dakra Mystic
and
Hour of Need
.
Dakra Mystic
is a nice early drop creature that can also give virtual card advantage and info, which are both extremely helpful in a tempo deck, while also milling cards that I wont be able to deal with. This would essentially replace Grim Lavamancer's role in most versions of the deck.
Hour of Need
is a powerful finisher. In the late game, when I need to push through those last points of damage and my opponent has a wall of blockers, I feel like Hour of need turning Pyromancer tokens into 4/4 Sphinx tokens will be pretty epic. I'm not sure that this is the best deck to utilize it (I would think it might fit better in TWOO's mono blue Ninja Bear Delver list, where
Battlefield Thaumaturge
also might fit (for some sweet strive bonuses)). But, it still seems like a fun idea to try out.
I REALLY need help sideboarding. I have very little idea how to sideboard for Modern (other than putting in Blood Moon, since it's funny to laugh at people who run greedy manabases). Right now I am using the sideboard from LSV's latest version of the U/R Delver list, but, with my changes, I am assuming that I might need to edit the sideboard to fit the new list?
