Do you enjoy casting a lot of spells? How about firing a massive otk cannon? If you say yes, welcome to my Aetherflux Reservoir deck.

Im planning on taking this deck to Gameday/FNM at my local store. Want to see if anymore improvements can be made before then.

Objective: To fire off the Aetherflux Reservoir cannon

How to achieve the objective: Using Foundry Inspector and/or Herald of Kozilek to reduce the casting cost of your artifacts while having Aetherflux Reservoir on the field.

Key Cards

Aetherflux Reservoir: The most important card of the deck. You gain a life for each spell you cast so you can fire off the cannon. The lifegain also helps stall against Aggro decks a bit.

Paradoxical Outcome: The combo enabler for the deck. Bounce all your artifacts on the field (minus any Foundry Inspector or Herald of Kozilek), and drop them all back down. Plus you draw a bunch of cards to throw more stuff down

Creatures

Herald of Kozilek and Foundry Inspector: Artifact cost reduction. Once you have 3 cards of any combination, majority of your artifacts will be free to cast.

Glint-Nest Crane: Card filter and a stable blocker for early game.

Filigree Familiar: Helps stall for time by gaining 2 life upon entering the battlefield. Even better when it dies, cause you get a card.

Artifacts

Glassblower's Puzzleknot: Scrying to help look for your combo pieces, plus the energy helps with Harnessed Lightning

Prophetic Prism: Color fixing in rare cases, but its mostly a cantrip card.

Metalspinner's Puzzleknot: Cheap artifact that cantrips (Recommended by: IzzetGod and BLEATH)

Instants

Harnessed Lightning: Basically your only removal spell. Its also flexible since unused energy can power up the next Harnessed Lightning.

Lands

Spirebluff Canal: Good early untapped source

Inventors' Fair: Provide small amount of life, but also the ability to dig for a artifact of your choice.

Wandering Fumarole: Manland for blocking.

Aether Hub: Versatile land that fixes your color, or just give energy

Sideboard

Turn Aside and Negate: Stop those pesky artifact removal spells. Or any other non-creature spell you see as a threat

Torrential Gearhulk: Flash this in to reuse your resources.

Perpetual Timepiece: Cheap artifact that doubles down as a card that brings back all the resources in your graveyard

Summary Dismissal: Against any card with an on cast ability that threatens your board

Engulf the Shore: Anti-token card

Void Shatter: A catch all answer. If you have a Herald of Kozilek on the field, this becomes a counterspell

Strengths

  • Generally easy to pilot
  • Relatively inexpensive (minus Torrential Gearhulk)
  • Usually a surprise to most opponents on game 1
  • Can splash another color if necessary
  • Who doesn't like to fire off a giant 50 damage cannon?

Weaknesses

  • Very easy to hate
  • Falls quickly if the combo is not assembled

Needing Assistance

  • Need to improve consistency of the deck
  • Need help with sideboard options

Updates Add

What Changed:

Out Goes

  • 4x Hedron Archive
  • 1x Smuggler's Copter

In Goes

  • 4x Metalspinner's Puzzleknot (replace Hedron Archive)
  • 1x Glint-Nest Crane (replace Smuggler's Copter)

After play testing with the new cards in the deck against my friends, here are the results:

Against R/G Energy 2-1

  • This was a even matchup. It really depends on their opening hand whether they will beat you down by turn 4, or they lose all their gas early and you stabilize.

  • Sideboarding in Negates did help in minimizing the damage from pump spells a bit

Against Aetherwork Marvel deck 1-2

  • Very very tough to beat when your on the draw. Once they drop card: Aetherwork Marvel, it was a gamble that Emurakul or Ulamog doesn't come dropping by on turn 4 and ruining your day.

  • Sideboarding in Turn Aside did help in minimizing the damage

Against Grixis Control 0-2

  • Did not fair well. They would occasionally tap out on their turn, just to kill all of my Herald of Kozileks and Foundry Inspectors on the field. Definitely need some work on this.

  • Most of my sideboard did help, reduce the damage that could be dealt but game just took longer to finish. Perpetual Timepiece was decent against them since they had to waste one of their counterspells just to avoid the whole problem again

Overall Results: 3-5

Not an impressive night, made some misplays after sideboarding in the cards. Will try to work on the problems and hopefully figure it out by Gameday on Friday.

I notice a lack of finish against my opponent if they shut down Aetherflux Reservoir. I'm currently considering putting in Metalwork Colossus somewhere in the the sideboard, but am unsure what to take out
