Returning to the game for the first time since the mid Nineties in order to play some casual Commander / EDH with friends.

This is my ongoing attempt to build a UB deck on a budget.

I welcome your feedback and suggestions!

My initial goal was simply to put together a control and trickery focused UB deck based on my very limited knowledge of current MTG rules.

After doing some reading, I think that specifically, I'm aiming facilitate Black's graveyard abilities to power certain creatures. Also some mill aspects, but I understand that milling as a win strategy is very hard in multiplayer Commander. Would like to have cards to search through my deck and counterspell to keep me alive.

Past that, I could use your tips and ideas.

Truth be told, since I'm so rusty, I'm struggling to understand if I'm putting together the right pieces based on what I've been reading.

Cards I've got in hand are listed here. Some can - and should - get swapped out. I've tagged everything that people have mentioned or seemed relevant in the Maybeboard.

Please note, this is a budget build, so the expensive cards are not an option.

My immediate goals are to get Exsanguinate, Keening Stone, Forced Fruition, Duskmantle Guildmage, and Mindcrank (along with my land situation) and winnow down my deck from there.
