All creatures with the exception of the Snapcaster Mage have abilities that resolve when the spell is initially cast, it doesn't matter if the spell is countered or if I allow it to resolve (which I don't have to with niv-magus elemental.

I can cast Pillar of flame for 1; and get a +1/+1 counter on quiryon dryad, deal 2 damage with Guttersnipe, create a token with Talrand, Sky Summoner, and then exile the spell with niv-magus elemental and give him +2/+2.

Other shenanigans include: target one of my own creatures with something like Pillar of Flame while Wild Defiance is on the field, the triggers all go off and then I can exile the spell with niv-magus elemental effectively could give niv-magus +5/+5 each time I target him and exile the spell...pretty stupid
