Trostani, Chorus of the People

Oba’s voice is the life of the wilds. Tangled hair and shifting eyes of jade and bark, she heralds the instinct of the creatures and people of Selesnya and beyond. She feels the roots of the world, and sings their seemingly wild, discordant melodies with life and tenacity.

Ses’ voice is measured and ordered. Goldenwood adorns her brow and holds in place a stream of auburn hair, tickling the base of ears that hear the measured pulse and fine sculpted truths of Ravnica. She hears the sculpted shapes of ravnican law, and sings a well practiced tradition; a refined ancient song of fact and form with perfect pitch.

Cim’s voice is their harmony. Ever the bridge between her sisters, and teeming with power, her emerald eyes see the balance between wild life and ordered being. She sings a beautiful harmony, a voice that melds her sisters and aligns them; a voice that harmonizes, and turns three melodies to one purpose.

Oba of Life, Ses of Order, Cim of Balance. Together, the three sisters of Trostani are one voice for the people of Selesnya.

Trostani, Chrous of the People is a deck focused on building an army of token creatures; cloning, embalming, and eternalizing powerful creatures and copying and populating them to turn single card soldiers into battalions of their own.

  • Creatures that generate additional token creatures, whether through arrival effects, recurring triggers, or embalming.
  • Numerous spells that 'populate', copying the best of the creature tokens you possess.
  • Creatures that return as tokens of themselves, able to be duplicated and populated.
  • Benefits that trigger repeatedly on creature creation.
  • Recurring lifegain from creating creatures, and creatures that chain that lifegain into even larger forces.
  • 'Myriad' creatures, whose tokens can be populated during combat, resulting in explosive growth.

This deck was originally built as an Oketra the True deck. While I loved that deck dearly, it really struggled to get off the ground sometimes, and I found working with mono-white struggled to ramp or draw cards at all. When I found the populate mechanic, I realised it was a fantastic opportunity to rebuild that token deck and add in another colour to help fix the holes that it had in ramp and tempo to build itself up.

The original deck is here.
