TritonX - Legacy Merfolk U

Sideboard

The first account of tritons dates back to Ancient Greece where the first of their race, Triton, was the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Descendants of Triton would act as emissaries of the sea and escorts of marine deities, collectively bearing the name of their father and coming to be known as tritons. Their home was Atlantis, a city of great wealth, peace and prosperity which would eventually be destroyed by Poseidon after its inhabitants began forgetting the laws of the God of the Sea and indulged in sinful activities, thereby condemning them to the depths of the sea forever. The mythology of tritons would echo throughout different cultures and civilisations, where they would be referenced to as mermaids, merrows, selkies, sirens and in Magic: The Gathering, as Merfolk.

One could say the history of Merfolk in Magic:The Gathering is as old as tritons are relative to the history of human civilisation: They have been around in the card game since its very first edition, Alpha, with Lord of Atlantis and Merfolk of the Pearl Trident being the first ever printed. The tribe has since risen to prominence across multiple formats with the addition of new Merfolk and powerful supportive spells but still leading them is Lord of Atlantis, which can be seen at the frontline of decks in both Modern and its precursor-in-spirit: Legacy. To this day, Legacy Merfolk is considered as one of the best decks, as is the format of Legacy due to its diverse playing field, competitiveness, fun factor and because it lets you play what is probably the best card ever printed: Force of Will. Without further ado, here is my take on mono-blue Legacy Merfolk.
