Burn All Day, Burn All Night

Standard Budget Burn Competitive

BubbleMatrix2357

Description

Burn, burn, burn. Simple, yet complex. Burn your creatures, burn your face! Meant to take on the current creature-heavy Standard. Hoping that the 8 draw cards (4 Tormenting Voice and 4 Cathartic Reunion) will help prevent the deck from fizzling out too quickly, as straight burn decks are known to do. Those 8 cards will also interact madness-wise with Fiery Temper in the usual awesome fashion (i.e. a Standard Lightning Bolt), and work somewhat well (but not as awesomely) with Avacyn's Judgment. The 4 Aether Hub are just for some free Energy to potentially use with Harnessed Lightning. Please comment and make suggestions, and upvote!

Have you considered Collective Defiance and Chandra, Flamecaller? Both are burn spell (chandra more or less, she burns via elementals), can kill creatures and can refill your hand. They could take some tormenting voice or cathartic reunion slots, as in burn you generally want to have as much burn spells as posible, and as filter carts are great to keep you going, they don't do any damage at all, and having too many move your strategy from burn to control. If you insist on keeping like 6 of them in, why not 2 Bedlam Reveler main deck? You probably will be filling your graveyard with spells pretty quickly, and then again, the reveler is a good way to refill you hand while being able to do some damage.

What i have been trying to say, you gotta be more agressive than this to be considered burn.

you know Harness the Storm would be super sweet in this deck. and with all your discarding it would get alot a uses.

Played against someone with a similar deck recently, Dynavolt Tower can be a pretty good fit when you're casting all of these instants and sorceries.

Cool suggestion DEDmaster, I may have to playtest with Harness the Storm. Not sure if it might be too slow though. We'll see.

Phyrexia, I do have a few similar decks with Dynavolt Tower in them. Might be too slow for this deck though, but I will consider it. Thanks! Check out this slightly different brew, Triple D!.

Pinkie_Satanas, I think Chandra, Flamecaller might be too expesnive, hence come out too late to be effective with the 3/1 Elementals. I would assume the opponent would be able to block them by that point, and since creature attack is not the focus of this deck, the Elementals could end up being duds. I do like her last -X ability, but it might be too late. For the same cost I think Chandra, Pyrogenius would be better because she can basically do direct damage each turn. Thanks for the suggestions!

Incendiary Flow is an absolute must and a 4-of, otherwise you'll lose against an onslaught of Scrapheap Scroungers. Running 4 Cathartic Reunion is rather risky, because it's a horrible topdeck and most of the time you won't have the required two cards in hand with the amount of burning you're planning to do. So my advice would be this: -4 Cathartic Reunion, +4 Incendiary Flow.

Thanks. kuge1000, now that I think about it, you are correct about that.

BubbleMatrix2357 I like these decks. Have you considered splashing for Collective Brutality and Alms of the Vein?

Both can burn while gaining you life, and synergise with the discard/madness mechanics you're already using. The land is easily managed with Smoldering Marsh and Foreboding Ruins as well. Last suggestion, if you can put a few artifacts in, Unlicensed Disintegration is one of the best removal spells (with a free Fiery Temper) in standard right now.

If you want I'll post up my deck which is basically what I just described. Very fun deck and very quick (dead on turn 4 main) with control/attrition sideboard :)

Good luck!

Sweltering Suns might be a decent Sideboard card. It hits your Creatures as well but it can let you get out of trouble if someone's board goes wide, and then they have to spend time filling it up again, while you continue to burn.

Lightning Axe is usually paired with Madness cards to allow a discard source. Currently you have no discard in the deck, so you won't get full value from Fiery Temper and Avacyn's Judgment. If you don't add a way to discard you'd be better off with Burn from Within than Avacyn's Judgment.

Warfire Javelineer is a newly spoiled card that would be terrific for you in the late game. I like it much better than Bedlam Reveler.

I was drawing too many lands in the late game with this deck. Drop them down to 21.

Here's what I would do:

OUT

2x Mountain
4x Avacyn's Judgment (you should only have four finishing spells at most)

IN

1x Burn from Within
1 or 2x Chandra's Pyrohelix
3 or 4x Lightning Axe

Warfire Javelineer instead or Bedlam Reveler in the Sideboard.

3x Blazing Volley instead of 4x Boiling Earth in the Sideboard.

3x Sweltering Suns in the Sideboard and no Kari Zev's Expertise

I was playtesting against Amonkhet Minotaurs.
