First Major Update —April 16, 2017

Having played this several times at my LGS, I'm happy overall, but a few changes were necessary. The list got a bit tighter, the curve was improved, and I included more cards from Amonkhet.

(Speaking of Amonkhet, Defiant Greatmaw will be in this deck once T/O adds the card.)

studajew: Thanks! If you like it you're welcome to +1 ;)

And I'll consider Cauldron of Souls, thanks.

I think you should reconsider Flourishing Defenses, cuz it is just bonkers with Black Sun's Zenith. Ruling says you get 1 token for EACH counter.

dscherer21: I want to find space for it, but Nest of Scarabs does the same thing for cheaper :( And most of my -1/-1 counter-placers only put 1 anyway.

If I find I don't have enough token creation, I'll add it back in :)

Okay, so I see that you seem to mainly win via an infinite combo, which to me means you're leaning more towards that than actual stax plays like your tags suggest, but if you're going to have that tag anyway I would presume you'd need a way to make the stax effects one-sided.

Right?

So how the hell has nobody brought up Melira, Sylvok Outcast? I mean, yeah, she'll stop your combo from going off on your own creatures, but she also negates most of your board wide creature killing because those are all -1/-1 counter based, so it is a win-win there isn't it?

At the least I would question using either of the the snake legends given you have 0 snake creatures without them/your commander. At least one I feel is better replaced by that Flourishing Defenses in the maybeboard.

TheRedGoat: shrug You said it yourself. She shuts off all of my infinite combos, and generally speaking I'm okay with putting -1/-1 counters on my creatures in exchange for snakes. She used to be in here, but after she messed up my combos one too many times, she got the axe. With regards to the cuts you mention, I can definitely see what you're saying with regards to Seshiro the Anointed, but Shisato, Whispering Hunter is a surprisingly good tempo piece if I have a snake or two (and I almost always do). Flourishing Defenses is still in testing, but there's a few cards I'd want to add beforehand.

Darkcoco23: I'd rather have Parallel Lives TBH - Doubling Season only doubles the -1/-1 counters on my creatures, and is one mana more.

Enough is enough, I've had it with these motherf'ing snakes during my motherf'ing EDH games.

Viridian Corrupter seems lack luster when compared with the rest of the deck. if infect/wither work with hapatra there are stronger sources of those like Corrosive Mentor (should be awesome with Nest of Scarabs), if you want the destroy there are instant speed options like Krosan Grip. Honestly everything else looks fine you could probably not use the any color pain lands but necroskitter could grab a thing that needs red mana or something...

Okay, so what about coming down on tribal synergies and running other snakes? Or even Conspiracy maybe?
