Maybeboard

This deck is built around using creature's with defender to get a lot of mana. Ramp out big creatures or secure the win with Torment of Hailfire.

I will explain my reasoning for each card in this deck here.

Instant and Sorceries

Abrupt Decay: Good removal in the early game, might replace with Path to Exile.

Abzan Charm: Removal, buff, or card draw. It can do all three, depending on which you need.

Approach of the Second Sun: Some life gain tied with an extra win condition.

Chord of Calling: Grab the creature you want, usually Dragonlord Dromoka. You will easily have the mana to grab what you want.

Torment of Hailfire: Use this for some crazy damage on your enemies. Can sometimes outright kill an enemy by turn 6 or 7, as you can ramp up super hard.

Creatures

Archetype of Endurance: Protect your lovely mana defenders.

Axebane Guardian: The strongest mana defender in your deck. Tap it for crazy amount of perfect mana fixed mana.

Birds of Paradise: Great perfect mana sources.

Dragonlord Dromoka: Protect your Torment of Hailfire and your other spells, along with gaining life.

Elderscale Wurm: Keep yourself alive against aggro or burn.

Iona, Shield of Emeria: Shut down your opponents decks by cutting off a color.

Overgrown Battlement: Costs one less than Axebane Guardian for only green mana.

Wall of Omens: Card draw and synergy with Axebane Guardian and Overgrown Battlement.

Artifact

Prophetic Prism: Card draw and mana fixing for when its needed.

Land

Evolving Wilds: Gets you the basic land you need, along with some deck thinning.

Forest: Self explaining.

Gavony Township: In a very stall based game, lets you build up your creatures to swing for more and more damage.

Plains: Self explaining.

Sunpetal Grove: Quick dual land.

Swamp: Self explaining.

Woodland Cemetery: Quick dual land.

Here I will explain the sideboard of this deck, and where and when to use it. It is up to change though.

Abrupt Decay: Extra if you are fighting a deck that relies on low drop non-creatures.

Artisan of Kozilek: If you are afraid of something important dying.

Blazing Archon: Shut down aggro decks.

Chord of Calling: Extras if you need it.

Diabolic Tutor: If you are fighting an anti creature deck, lets you find your Torment of Hailfire.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn: Extra win condition.

Kozlek, Butcher of Truth: Card draw, big creature, very strong.

Summoning Trap: Use against decks that run lots of counters spells.

Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger: Exile some indestructible permanents, along with amazing mill against pest stall decks.

Turn 1 - Forest > Birds of Paradise: Tons of potential for turn 2.

Turn 2 - Swamp > Axebane Guardian: Excessive mana already.

Turn 3 - Plains > Overgrown Battlement > Overgrown Battlement: Axebane and Overgrown give 3 mana each.

Turn 4 (end) - Swamp > Max Torment of Hailfire: This will give you Torment of Hailfire with 12 for X. This can easily put your opponent into a state with a small or empty hand and a small or empty board. Or, if they were not ready, a full on kill.

On turn 4 you can play more creatures and defenders. Don't feel bad to use Chord of Calling to pull out an Axebane Guardian for more mana. Only costs 6 mana total. Or 5 if you would rather grab an Overgrown Battlement.

In play testing, I have been able to get around a 20 for X Torment of Hailfire on turn 6, which can end a game outright.

This is an example of a very strong turn 6.
