For the longest time, my game store would give out prizes in the form of Relic Seeker. At first, I saw an utterly unusable card as my reward for doing well; even saw others asking to trade them away immediately due to it's lack of value...
But after waiting a couple months for BFZ, I finally found Relic Seeker's purpose! A purpose that I have yet to see anyone else discover. Observe how they prove their worth in this budget brew utilizing the returning Landfall ability!
The idea behind the deck is mainly G/R Landfall, but just barely splashing in White for those surprisingly effective Relic Seekers. Now we all know how landfall works, so the twist with this deck is using the Relic Seekers to tutor for two particular cards: the obvious inclusion of
Sword of the Animist
, and the sleeper, under-the-radar, and underestimated
Slab Hammer
. A turn 2 Relic Seeker will most likely net you the
Sword of the Animist
, allowing you to swing for at least 4 on turn 4, while bringing out a much needed basic in order to ramp into your big boys!
Remember, this is a BUDGET deck. There will be no fetches outside of Evolving Wilds, none of the new dual lands from BFZ like Cinder Glade, and no expensive creatures like
Dragonlord Atarka
. The only creature that's actually expensive in the deck, in both CMC & price, is Omnath, Locus of Rage, and even he is not that much price-wise.
In closing, this deck has been proven to be both fun and resourceful in testing; putting heat on the board that the opponent has to answer. BUT!!! That doesn't mean it's finished! With the help of this amazing community, I hope to make this deck even more competitive! Also, the sideboard is total balls, so I really need help in that department!
