I took the to the Aether Revolt Game Day on 2/11/17. I ended up winning my first Game Day and went 4-0 in matches and 8-1 in games.

Round 1. GR Energy:

I initially had a bye, but then someone came in about 2 minutes after the round started. The host of the event asked me if I wanted to play and I said yes because I go to free events to get in some fun magic.

Game 1 I get out saheeli turn 3 after killing all his small creatures and start scrying more kill and counter. I never saw a guardian, but my opponent scooped because he couldn't keep a board presence.

Game 2 was fairly similar. I killed and countered his creatures, but I didn't have a saheeli this time. I played out Thougt-knot seer and he couldn't get his creatures big enough to fight through it. Eventually I was able to draw into and play my combo to win. 2-0 games. 1-0 matches.

Round 2. BR Aggro:

I knew what my opponent was playing to stat the round because he had just beat my friend in round 1. I knew I had to stop his creatures early and often to win.

Game 1 I was able to get out a turn 4 radiant flames and from there he couldn't climb back. I played a turn 5 saheeli with counter backup and then got the combo on turn 6.

Game 2 I kept a hand with Mountain, Plains, island, Radiant Flames, Radiant flames, and some targeted removal. He over extended early and I played a turn 3 radiant flames. He started to build again and I got out my second flames into combo the next few turns. 4-0 games. 2-0 matches.

Round 3. Jund Energy:

This was the updated version of the deck Marin Juza took to top 8 the pro tour.

Game 1 he gets a lot of energy, but I am able to combo early thanks to counter spells.

Game 2 this game went long. I get out Thought-knot seer and see 2 unlicensed disintegration and a shock. I take the shock because it makes him hold up more mana every turn. This seemed like the correct play, but in the end didn't matter because he top decked chandra, killed my thought-knot, and then ticked up chandra until he got the emblem and played a second chandra. I scooped when the second chandra was cast.

Game 3 I kill his early creatures and I get out a turn 3 saheeli with land and guardian in hand. he plays a turn 3 longtusk cub with 4 energy available and he has an untapped game trail. After scrying a dispel on top, and taking some time to think, I realize he will kill my saheeli next turn with his cub so I decide to just go for the combo and force the issue. I target saheeli, take her to 1, and opponent doesn't respond, so I say make a million cats and kill you? 6-1 Games. 3-0 matches.

Round 4. UB Rise from the Tides control:

The host announces that this match is for the play mat, so stakes are high.

Game 1 I counter a couple of his early card draw spells, stasis snare his Torrential Gearhulk, and combo the turn after he played it with my own counter magic to stop his kill spell.

Game 2 I board in all my counter spells and take out my radiant flames and shocks. I didn't see a Rise from the Tides in game 1 so I didn't think about killing anything except for the gearhulk. This game goes extremely long. I try my combo early, but he wins the counter war on the guardian. After a few more counter wars over Gideon, a gearhulk, and a stasis snare, he plays out rise from the tides with 6 mana available. I have 6 untapped mana on my side with scatter to the winds, revolutionary rebuff, and felidar guardian in hand. I attempt to scatter his rise, but he disallows my scatter. Since her had 3 mana still up, i decided to say okay. I top deck saheeli. play saheeli, he takes some time to think but eventually tries to disallow as a counter spell, which uses his last 3 mana. I revolutionary rebuf, slam the guardian on the table and take a big breath. 8-1 Games. 4-0 matches.
