This is the Answer, What was the Question?

Standard Control GWU (Bant) Midrange

EvenDryke

Sideboard

Instant (6)

Sorcery (3)

Enchantment (6)

With the current standard being as straightforward as it is, I decided a control deck would be the best way to go. If their deck really relies on that Geist of Saint Traft, Unburial Rites, or turn 4 Thragtusk, then having a counter ready can be devastating. In short, I want to have an answer for just about anything my opponent could throw at me.

I'm looking to build this a little bit after Dragon's Maze comes out.

The Deck

Azorius Charm - This is either an instant speed card draw if I am not getting what I need, or it bounces a threat. I rarely if ever use the lifelink option, but you never know.

Cyclonic Rift - Dual functionality is always a good thing. This either functions as a selective (albeit expensive) board wipe, or it bounces their turn 2 threat and fucks up their curve. Setting a naya aggro deck back a turn can be a death sentence at times.

Dissipate/Essence Scatter - Counter that Thragtusk before it hits. The 3 CMC of Dissipate curves well with today's turn 3 or 4 Thragtusk.

Negate - These are in their for a bit of light disruption. If you can set them back a turn by countering their Farseek, it is worth it. This also helps against other control decks.

Syncopate - Possibly my favorite counter spell of all time. The problem is it depends entirely on mana, so this will be sided out in decks with too much ramp. However, I find that with 25 land and 3 Farseek of my own, I can typically outpay my opponents.

Thragtusk - I don't think I really need to explain what makes this a good creature, so I will just say why he is strong in this deck. He recovers from board wipes, and his lifegain helps supplement what I have lost from early aggression. I will also happily trade with their thragtuski, as odds are I have a board wipe on the way anyway.

Supreme Verdict - I want the board as empty as possible. And this is the best board wipe in standard.

Garruk, Primal Hunter - Running 4 Garruks is not a decision I made lightly. The reason is that I always want to see him, in games, and a lot of the time, I will kill him as soon as he comes out for the draw. Especially if I can be confident that I will draw into another one. He also helps me get a creature on the board right away after I wipe it, and immediate board advantage is extremely good.

The Sideboard

Dispel - To be swapped with 4 Essence Scatter when facing another control deck. Counter their counter.

Oblivion Ring - Non creature permanents can be a much bigger threat than creatures. Comes in when facing superfriends, or something similar.

Planar Cleansing - Comes in at the same time as Oblivion Ring. Or if I feel I need more board wiping power in a certian matchup.

Detention Sphere - Run this over Oblivion Ring if they don't run Detention Sphere. Run Oblivion Ring instead if they do.

Feedback and +1s always appreciated.
