Thunderbolt is strictly better than Searing Spear . At sorcery speed and targeting only creatures, Mizzium Mortars is great. At its worst, it's only slightly less useful than Flame Slash , and at its best it's a field wipe--or at least it will make your opponent's >4 toughness creatures reconsider blocking.

Actually scratch that; Thunderbolt is ALMOST strictly better.

I feel like Hound of Griselbrand is a card no one will be expecting

And what if I want to burn non-fliers.....?I will take a second look at Hound of Griselbrand , I actually used to use it a lot and it slipped my mind.

But then again what competes better in the 4-drop slot?

Hellrider and Hound are both good cards. I'd say just play around with the idea, undying and doublestrike are two of the best abilities

Yeah very true. Thanks for reminding me. I think 6 might be too many in the 4 slot but I'm gonna try 3 of both.

Mortars is a bit odd for an aggro deck, and I doubt you can get to 6 very efficiently since you only have 22 lands. I'd rather have Thunderbolt because the big 4 toughness creature you'd want to kill is Restoration Angel anyway. Hound is cute, but completely sucks in a standard environment where everybody with red plays Pillar of Flame because it's the best option for 1 cmc removal in that color. If you like the double strike, then I recommend Stonewright instead of Vexing Devil .

Ehh... Stonewright.... Not a huge fan. I feel like Thunderbolt will fuck me if I need to kill something like zombies or humans. I see the logic but I don't want to get screwed by it..

Thunderbolt could be a sideboard card in case they do have flying. I know I've used Brimstone Volley and it usually screws me over trying to find a way to get the 5 damage off.

Yeah I'm trying to find more reliable burn and red instant/sorceries. Should I use Faithless Looting ? I don't really care much for it, but idk. Desperate Ravings if I don't care about flashback. I grabbed Reforge the Soul because I tend to run out of a hand after a while. As much as I'm going to see Desecration Demon , and Rakdos, Lord of Riots, and Archon of the Triumvirate , I think Thunderbolt will be a little more reliable. I can pair it with my own attacking first strike to kill those if they defend with it. Otherwise, I can look into some better flying to pair it with.

It's hard keeping this deck at 60 cards.

I like the deck, but suggest replacing Reforge the Soul . In theory it's great, but it's really not. I mean, yeah, you draw a whole new hand of burn and creatures, but then your opponent draws a whole new hand of potential answers and if you don't win that turn it could cost the whole game.

Dangerous Wager would be better in my opinion, as only you draw cards even if it's just two it's better than your opponent getting a fresh 7 cards.

Yeah but I also like the idea of killing a good hand for them and getting 7. I tend to think as "My deck should be reliable if I pull 7.... to deal with the 7 they pull"

I'm gonna try all options.

I know your view, I played it in my RDW and it is awesome pulling that full hand and burning the opponent out but against Delver new or old and the control decks and zombie decks that'll be in Ravnican standard I see more harm than good. I suppose, however, it'll come down to playtesting and preference.

Hi. Reforge the Soul is a card I am always leery about in mono red ( or in multiple colors for that matter )because of the way and pace that WE have to win.Meaning we should ideally end the game by turn 5,6 or 7. If we don't the chances of opponents setting up their pieces, locking us or countering and subsequently ending the game gets better. Imagine if you will by turn 5 or 6 you cast reforge. You end your turn with a full hand but totally tapped out and awaiting a full handed, full mana based opponent. By the next turn even with bountiful burn spells you end up from being an offensive player to one who is catching up and defending. That is why I tend to look at Wild Guess , Desperate Ravings or Faithless Looting . Just my 2 cents.

Let me ask, then, Guttersnipe , who I may wind up blocking with and can still attack with, or Splatter Thug , who's a more reliable intimidator and first striker?

Arc Trail is illegal in new standard. Flames of the Firebrand might work.
