This DECK Is An Experiment

Standard

Score: 11

Description

This deck should go something like this:

T1: Avacyn's Pilgrim .

T2: Mulch . Get fatties into the grave.

T3: Maybe a board wipe. Something to stall.

T4: Play Gilded Lotus using Avacyn's Pilgrim .

T5: Cast a huge Epic Experiment , revealing Unburial Rites or Defy Death 's for 0 on the fatties you already put into your grave.

i like the idea of this deck. +1 for the potential epicness

Lol thanks!

September 12, 2012 10:38 p.m.

Demarge says...

#3

wait wouldn't the creatures milled by Epic Experiment not be in the graveyard when you try to cast the free reanimation spells?

September 12, 2012 10:45 p.m.

Demarge says...

#4

Also Slagstorm will be rotated when this deck hits standard.

September 12, 2012 10:46 p.m.

RJNeuen says...

#5

ahh Demarge makes a very good point. a lot of these new cards require very careful read thous

September 12, 2012 10:49 p.m.

darkavengerotk says...

#6

That misreading kills the deck.

September 12, 2012 10:58 p.m.

buffy says...

#7

No, your wrong. It says: "put all cards exiled this way that where not cast into your GRAVEYARD" :).

September 12, 2012 11:56 p.m.

RJNeuen says...

#8

actually if you read the whole card from top to bottom and not just bits at a time it says to cast your instants or sorcs and THEN put the rest into the grave. therefore at the time of casting your instants/sorcs your grave is EMPTY

September 12, 2012 11:59 p.m.

buffy says...

#9

Yeah, I know. That's what Mulch and Faithless Looting are for. You put fatties into your graveyard, then use Epic Experiment :).

September 13, 2012 12:01 a.m.

In any case you should make it clearer, and redo the description.

September 13, 2012 4:01 p.m.

Arbor Elf is no good here. I would rather have card:Avacyn's Pilgrim or something. You only have 3 forests that could be untapped.

September 14, 2012 2:55 p.m.

buffy says...

#12

Your right. I keep thinking that Arbor Elf does the same thing as Llanowar Elves :(.

September 14, 2012 3:04 p.m.

squire1 says...

#13

that would be better. My biggest problem in playtesting has been the consistancy of the mana. It needs a better land base. i would take our card:Krenko's Command and add some Chromatic Lantern s Also Carnival Hellsteed seems a bit on the weak end.

September 14, 2012 3:09 p.m.

squire1 says...

#14

yeah is Mulch and Faithless Looting are your engine then it needs more green producers.

September 14, 2012 3:11 p.m.

buffy says...

#15

What should I replace Carnival Hellsteed with?

September 14, 2012 3:14 p.m.

squire1 says...

#16

more Chromatic Lantern s and Faithless Looting

September 14, 2012 3:18 p.m.

buffy says...

#17

I need to replace it with a fattie. I'll barely have any if I do that.

September 14, 2012 3:22 p.m.

squire1 says...

#18

you have plenty of creatures. The only times I have gotten your deck to work so far are when i get Chromatic Lantern s, Faithless Looting s and the land to cast them.

September 14, 2012 3:27 p.m.

I really think you should have card:Avacyn's Pilgrim replace Arbor Elf , for a couple reasons. One is that I think that if someone destroys your Gilded Lotus then you need something else to generate White Mana, the other reason is that you only have 3 Forests.

Which leads me to the other thing, I think you should have at least 1 Plains and 2 Evolving Wilds and possibly more green generating land, because you only have 6 and your First and Second Turn cards are green.

Otherwise I really like it.

September 14, 2012 3:33 p.m.

Never Mind about the Pilgim... I think I might have got detracted and saw Arbor Elf somewhere else.

September 14, 2012 3:35 p.m.

This a pretty great standard reanimator idea, "epic" work sir.

September 14, 2012 6:15 p.m.

buffy says...

#22

Lol thanks! :P.

September 14, 2012 7:17 p.m.

buffy says...

#23

@squire1 , I'll try out your idea :).

September 14, 2012 7:18 p.m.

buffy says...

#24

You think if I did that, I would STILL have enough fatties?

September 14, 2012 7:20 p.m.

Kravian says...

#25

You could try Avacyn, Angel of Hope as a fattie. And she synergizes with Defy Death .

September 14, 2012 11:54 p.m.

vishnarg says...

#26

Dude, seriously, why use Elderscale Wurm when you could use Worldspine Wurm ?

September 15, 2012 8:47 a.m.

buffy says...

#27

@vishnarg, Worldspine Wurm shuffles into it's owners library when it hits the graveyard :).

September 15, 2012 11:43 a.m.

squire1 says...

#28

Which is exactly why they gave it that ability. No reanimation

September 15, 2012 12:23 p.m.

buffy says...

#29

Yup :P.

September 15, 2012 12:26 p.m.

vishnarg says...

#30

Oh yeah.... Kinda missed that. Kk then

September 15, 2012 5:18 p.m.

redplayer says...

#31

Why dont you just cast unburial rites instead of wasting a slot for experiment which does nothing?

September 19, 2012 8:33 p.m.

buffy says...

#32

Because what's the fun in that??? That's too normal and lame.

September 19, 2012 9:53 p.m.

kira98 says...

#33

or just use frites for turn 3...

September 19, 2012 10:06 p.m.

buffy says...

#34

Still lame.

September 19, 2012 10:33 p.m.

Nonde says...

#35

I would like 4 faithless looting, or maybe 3. 2 just feels so low for a deck that doesn't want half of the cards in its hand.

September 22, 2012 2:57 p.m.

zandl says...

#36

Too many cards. In a combo deck, you want 60, and nothing more.

September 22, 2012 9:25 p.m.

redplayer says...

#37

Its not a combo deck. Its a cute interaction

September 22, 2012 9:55 p.m.

zandl says...

#38

Learn Magic more.

The deck tries to pull off a chain of interacting abilities (a combo) in order to get an advantage in the game. That makes it a combo deck.

September 22, 2012 10:07 p.m.

After playtesting I found it hard to get card:Avacyn's Pilgrim rolling on turn one. Maybe add some more green land sources.

September 22, 2012 10:16 p.m.

September 22, 2012 10:16 p.m.

zandl says...

#41

There are only 6 Green sources in the deck. That means you'll only see 1 out of every 10 cards. That's not even one in your average opening hand.

I'd be running 12, IMHO.

September 22, 2012 10:18 p.m.

redplayer says...

#42

Zandl does this win you the game? No. He could take out epic experiment and have a better deck but he wants to play it for a cool interaction with unburial and fatties which is fine. An example of a combo decks is splinter twin. Combo decks use cards in combination to win the game. Not use more expensive card to hopefully play a card that does not win the game. I would suggest you learn the game more if you think this interaction is good. Its original which is cool but a waist of 4 cards

September 22, 2012 11:16 p.m.

@redplayer If you want to strip the fun out of the game and be a rules nazi, net-decking jerk, please do it on a different site. We're all here for fun first. Constructive criticism is never bad, but flat out telling someone their strategy is bad and what they want to do isn't good enough is not okay.

September 23, 2012 5:31 a.m.

redplayer says...

#44

Some people are serious about their decks that they put on here. And I believe I said it was a cool and original interaction instead of just playing unburial. The reason why I was not picky was because some zandl called me out on how to play this game. I've been playing competitively for a very long time and only build competitive decks so I know how this game works. I never said I didnt appreciate the originality of the deck because I do and I never degraded the deck at all. I just had to point out the facts. I was Just saying this is not a combo deck.

September 23, 2012 11:24 a.m.

#45

This deck is purely for fun, and a just a cool idea. It will never be tournament bound. Just an idea :P. It's not as good as just regular frites.

September 23, 2012 4:10 p.m.

redplayer says...

#46

Yeah its Deffinantly cool. I just didnt know if it was purely for fun or if you were trying to build a competitive deck

Seems okay, hope the five colour mana works alright. Putting the pieces may prove tricky, and you may find yourself depending on those card:Avacyn's Pilgrims to produce your white mana and get good starts. Beware Slaughter Games or Pithing Needle , though in casual they'll seldom be used.

Big fatties like Griselbrand and whatnot are fine choices, and I kinda see where you are going with Carnival Hellsteed (the haste, for short), but Chaos Imps ? A 7/6 flyer is hard hitting, yes, but what about something REALLY bombastic like Balefire Dragon , or something smaller and easier to hardcast as a Plan B while still having the same impact. Maybe Sigarda, Host of Herons ? Not sure, your call really.

September 24, 2012 10:43 p.m.

#48

The only cards I want to be casting are:

card:Avacyn's Pilgrim Green

Epic Experiment Red/Blue

Mulch Green

Slagstorm Red

Unburial Rites on the flashback White

All those along with the colorless mana cards: Chromatic Lantern and Gilded Lotus . What would be the right mana base for all the cards that I want to cast?

September 25, 2012 11:57 a.m.

vishnarg says...

This deck needs full faithless looting. Best way to get fatsos in the yard. Defy death seems useless here...

September 25, 2012 11:16 p.m.

Just like to say that an overloaded Cyclonic Rift vs. 2 token decks was a LOT of fun... But here are my suggestions:

I agree with vishnarg - Defy Death seems pointless unless you're using angels. I'd also say -1 Gilded Lotus and +1 Chromatic Lantern , color sometimes was an issue trying to flashback or something.

I'm also not a big fan of Carnival Hellsteed , and Utvara Hellkite seems to be out of place. Though it could be a big game winner... I'm not sure how I feel about the Hellkite Have you considered Worldspine Wurm or more Elderscale Wurm s? However, maybe add in a big angel such as Avacyn and keep Defy Death ? I'm not sure.

Definitely a fun deck to get x=10+ on Epic Experiment though

Trying out casual (not standard) decks to get a MASSIVE Epic Experiment is super-fun; try it outside of standard, you'd really enjoy it buffy. For example, here's my attempt: Storm Of The Universe!

I agree on tossing in some Avacyn, Angel of Hope 's. Also with more elderscales. -2 Carnival Hellsteed +2 Avacyn, Angel of Hope -1 Chaos Imps +1 Elderscale Wurm .

September 29, 2012 12:34 p.m.

Have you considered Guttersnipe ? Could be a game-ender with a massive Epic Experiment
