You have a lot of room to take out some of the less exciting werewolves, like Cult of the Waxing Moon, Grizzled Outcasts  Flip, Hinterland Logger  Flip, Solitary Hunter  Flip etc-- the vanilla creatures-- and put in some cool wolves! They still get buffed by all of your tribal enchantments and they have a lot of good synergy.

I recommend: Master of the Wild Hunt, Pyreheart Wolf, Kessig Cagebreakers, Wolfir Silverheart, and Rot Wolf as some strong and more interesting replacements. Witchstalker is a good addition depending on your playgroup. :)

I like Ruric Thar as an interim commander!

Thank you for all of that great feedback abby315! I have slowly been replacing some of those more vanilla werewolves with creatures that either buff the human side of each flipper or help keep them flipped. I will definitely look into those wolves that you recommended.

Wizno I second abby315's opinion on replacing some of your creatures for the suggestions she listed. I would also like to congratulate you on making what I feel is the most amazing name for a deck featuring cards that flip over.

I appreciate the feedback TheACTR and I'm so happy you enjoy the name! I am currently working on tweaking my creature base with each match to see what works and what can go. Magus of the Wheel has been a great addition to help fuel card advantage while dodging my commander's pinging effect. Yeva, Nature's Herald is helping better control when my wolves flip or getting our crucial blockers as the deck begins to feel outpaced.

How has your werewolf deck been running in your meta? I always appreciate additional insight!

Well to be honest, the deck runs really well. My biggest problem I would say is fliers. They really ruin my day. And Ruric Thar can be a pain if you don't have some way around his triggers (I use lifelink enablers).A card that I would recommend that has served me well is Chameleon Colossus. That thing, especially with all of the anthems in the deck and trample enablers can get MASSIVE. Also, Yisan, the Wanderer Bard gives you instant speed creatures without actually casting spells so it works great for werewolves.

One thing I noticed about your deck, Dosan the Falling Leaf and Hermit of the Natterknolls  Flip cancel each other out. You may want to consider removing the latter since Dosan is more useful.

What would you say are the card's that perform best for you? I feel my deck isn't complete yet and am trying to figure out what it is missing.

Thank you again for all of that insight TheACTR! I'm glad to hear your deck is running smoothly and strongly. Yisan seems great in a deck like this so I will definitely be adding him in. Fliers can definitely be an issue for me too but one saving grace has been Homura, Human Ascendant (which combos so well with Feed the Pack!).

Of the cards I've been able to play with thus far in my matches, a few of the major hilights for me have been:

Traverse the Ulvenwald
Sage of Ancient Lore  Flip
Fires of Yavimaya
Mayor of Avabruck  Flip (he's been devastating if I can get him out on curve.

The deck is super aggressive and held it's own pretty well against an Oloro Epser control deck and a Kaalia deck (both of which were definitely more deck outed than mine). I've had many turns where I can swing for 20+ damage.

Out of Curiosity did you think about running Doubling Season or was there a reason you chose parallel Lives? Possibly run both?

May 24, 2016 8:57 p.m.

TheACTR says... #8

Rexzelius He only has 4 cards in his deck that have any counter synergy so Doubling Season wouldn't really be worth the extra money to replace Parallel Lives or make room enough to include both.

Wizno says... #9

I certainly see the value of Doubling Season Rexzelius. TheACTR pretty much hit the nail on the head as to why I don't run Doubling Season and/or Parallel Lives. While it's certainly a powerhouse card, I don't think this deck, in its current iteration, is really a strong fit for it. I certainly appreciate your suggestion though!

I must say Wizno, I like your deck very much. I also love the name and am really hoping that it is a nod to The Boondock Saints, that would make me insanely happy. The flavor of this deck is scrumptious, and I must admit that I giggled like a twelve year old school girl when I laid eyes on it. I have an under-performing Ruric Thar deck The Surge King that has been giving me fits. I saw your post on another guys' page about how Gruul can be difficult to keep up with other decks and I agree, then I had to come check out what you had going on. I've been trying to figure out how to get my deck to run smoother, but I have secretly been wanting to make a werewolf deck for a long time and this really scratches that itch. I had been playing with the idea of moving my Ruric more towards a hydra/dragon theme, but now I'm not so sure. I just recently discovered Zurgo Helmsmasher and since it is in Mardu which I love due to my main deck helmed by Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, I think I may be able to have my cake and eat it too. Anyway, sorry for going on a bit of a rant. I mainly wanted to let you know that I like the deck, and I would really love your feedback on my decks.

I'm also curious, when you cast Door of Destinies do you normally name humans, wolves, or werewolves? I'm sure it's situational, but in a convoluted board state, which do you choose?

Well thank you very much UnleashedHavok! It means so much to me that you like the deck and I thank you for pointing out that Boondock Saints reference! I don't even know how that slipped past me!

I would be more than happy to provide some feedback on your decks! I can tell you that werewolves is very fun in EDH but gets outpaced quick so if you want to build a deck around them, just do it for the fun of it.

Mardu is definitely a color combination that I enjoy quite a bit and I was on the verge of going all in on a Zurgo deck until they spoiled Queen Marchesa and fell in love with her as a commander. So don't forget to consider her as well!

Ruric Thar is definitely meant to helm big creatures like hydras and dragons more than werewolves but his ability just synergizes so well with their tribe (more so than Ulrich of the Krallenhorde  Flip. So I think you can really take Ruric in either direction you want and I would certainly be happy to provide feedback as you do that.

To answer your question regarding Door of Destinies, I will name werewolves since it also encompasses the new eldrazi werewolves too. I miss a few creatures no matter what I select but werewolves are the majority of the deck so I usually name that.

September 12, 2016 3:09 p.m.

Well I'm glad to have opened your eyes to the greatness that you had unwittingly brought into the world lol. And I'm looking forward to having some conversations about our decks!

Queen Marchesa is interesting I'll admit, but I'm not sure I'm in love with the monarch mechanic yet. Besides, the Mardu lady that currently has my heart is Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. She is my main squeeze right now, I just love how non-linear she is as a commander.

For Ruric Thar, the Unbowed.... I just don't know what I want to do yet. I have werewolf cards lying around that I have started accumulating to build a deck, but it's not enough to finish one. And TheACTR just gave me some amazing feedback on The Surge King that could really take my current Ruric build to a new and better level. Hell, I may just do my hyrda/dragons AND another build for wolves, but then again my wife might murder me......

I must say that if you like Zurgo Helmsmasher enough to do a build on him and budget is a factor, go check out a build on him by the Optimator. I based my build off his, and it's only a smidgen more expensive.... he, however, does budget builds. And in my opinion, he does a pretty damn good job of it.

Haha well thank you for opening my eyes and for your kind words UnleashedHavok! I am also looking forward to discussing deck craft more with you.

I haven't had a real chance to play with Queen Marchesa so I'm not sure how monarch will function in EDH. I suppose if it doesn't work out, I'll have a lot of pieces to branch out to Zurgo or Alesha.

I certainly don't want to get you murdered haha but werewolves are a fun build and relatively cheap. It's really about building around their flips so finding ways to keep the consistently in full on wolf mode is the challenge. My other werewolf deck, The Incredible Hulrich!, has some suggestions on how to do that if you're interested.

TheACTR was also very helpful in getting this deck streamlined as well so your deck is in good hands.

Thank you UnleashedHavok and Wizno for the kind words. I don't profess to be an expert so don't expect my suggestions to be the best thing you could do to your decks. I just picked up a few things while remodeling my own decks time and again and I know what has worked for me. If you two need any other help, just let me know and I will see if I can be of any use. Also, EDHREC.com is an amazing website that usually helps me out with my commander decks so feel free to check it out.

Thank you for your kind feedback Blackmane78. I'll be sure to check out your build as well. In regards to your question about haste enablers, I don't really like them too much. I've built this kind of deck before and found that I don't really want to be swinging in with the human side of my creatures unless I've got a lot of pump ready to go. It's actually benefited my opponents more if I play something like Fervor. But thank you for the question. I'll have to see how this new variant holds up in my meta.

Great deck. I can't bring myself to use the eldrazi werewolves, lol. Your use of Dosan was a nice touch, and will be incorporated into my own Werewolf EDH. With all the Atraxa decks, I think ground seal might find its way into my deck along with Melira, Sylvok Outcast. You picked a lot of good lands on here too.

Thank you very much for kind support tomb14! I'm glad my deck could provide an idea or two for your deck! Best of luck handling the menace of Atraxa. Happy Hunting!

I found a card you might like when I was looking into Dosan. City of Solitude, Players can cast spells and activate abilities only during their own turns. enchantment, 2 colorless and 1 green.

Thank you for the great suggestion tomb14! I had no idea that card even existed so I really appreciate you putting that on my radar. I will be seriously looking into it as I continue to tweak the deck.
