The deck has three main objectives: 1) Alternate casting costs for big spells. 2) Discouraging people to attack me while mostly encouraging them to attack someone else. 3) Winning with Exsanguinate, Torment of Hailfire or Cut. I'm going for a low to no tutor arrangement in this deck, because consistency isn't as important to me as redundancy with draw power. Also, I dont need overwhelming draw power because much of what I run is of a high mana cost - and with both commanders in play casting any spell nets a draw - but refilling the hand with a one off spell is useful.
