G/B Constrictor has been placed among the best standard decks for quite a while, without having to go through drastic changes as newer expansions came in. With the great rotation that came with Ixalan's release, so many new options have been made available for us...
I'm quite happy we didn't lose so many cards, or pieces that can't be replaced. Ixalan brings many options and synergies for us to use and take advantage of. The reprinting of the long-missed checklands brings new color options. I've found out that adding a little blue to the mix helps the deck acceleration pretty much. Cards like Glimmer of Genius give us this game changing hand advantage the deck needed. Opt is amazingly good for acceleration and hand fixing. Herald of Secret Streams is nothing but a wincon in a deck that pretty much gives a +1 +1 counter to everything! Merfolk Branchwalkers are just so good.. Having explore on a 2-drop that can get potentially buffed thanks to Winding Constrictor is fantastic! Shapers of Nature bring amazing synergies in the mid-late game with their ability to add +1 +1 counters, or take them away... giving us card draw at a very acceptable mana cost!
I Playtested this at today's FMN, going 2nd place... It happened like this:Won 2-1 against Naya DinosaursWon 2-0 against W/B ApproachLost 1-2 against Mono-Black Zombies Won 2-0 against Temur Energy
I know, I know... A single FNM is not enough to know how good a deck really is! That's why I plan on playtesting this in the upcoming months, and I ask you guys for any help/advice you can give to me! Lets maintain this deck's glory until it rotates out of standard format!!
