Dinosaur Destruction

Commander / EDH* RGW (Naya)

Zupanovic

Introduction

The deck is a different twist on Zacama, Primal Calamity combos. It utilizes a host of green ramp and mana doublers to build a large mana base that can recover when combo pieces get focused. The deck also has a subthemes of control and creatures, with a dinosaur tribal spin. The focus on tribal, apart from sweet flavor wins, serves two purposes. The first being that an emphasis on creature tribal will make the deck seem less threatening at the table and allow for some possible leniency in politics. Second, a lot of the enrage mechanics and general abilities of dinosaurs usually deter opponents from attacking or using damage based spells on your board, usually netting more time to establish pieces to combo off.

Win Conditions

The deck has a varied amount of win cons available to it through different strategies. One of the most obvious is using Temur Sabertooth to loop Zacama, Primal Calamity for infinite mana, then using that mana for different means. With infinite mana you can use it to kick a huge Comet Storm to wipe the whole table, using pump effects like Kessig Wolf Run , Huatli, Radiant Champion or Overwhelming Stampede to pump Zacama to swing for commander damage, Pyrohemia can also be used in a similar vein to Comet Storm as long as your life total is higher than opponents. Using indestructible effects in combination with Forerunner of the Empire and Polyraptor to black out the sun with raptors, making sure a haste enabler like Regisaur Alpha or Fires of Yavimaya so you don't have three turns of having that board wiped, stolen or killed yourself. Having a large board of creatures can also be beneficial for finishing players with a back breaking Overwhelming Stampede in combination with Ghalta, Primal Hunger or Zacama, Primal Calamity to maximize the +x/+x effect.

Weaknesses

With most creature strategies, they're susceptible to some of the most non land permanent removal, being countered, stealing and board wipes. The use of utility lands such as Homeward Path can prevent stealing, Cavern of Souls is another option that can provide some checks to countering important creatures. Creatures being susceptible to basic damage can be problematic, if a deck is running a lot of damage based strategies using Temple Altisaur , Boros Charm and Heroic Intervention to prevent creature loss. With a deck like this hitting land drops and ramping is necessary to pay for the more demanding choices. With a deck centered around high CMC curves and creatures, making sure there are answers to stax cards like Winter Orb is necessary, having Thrashing Brontodon to be a searchable answer can be important to take out hateful enchants and artifacts.
