Blightsteel Colossus joins the fray! —Dec. 1, 2018
I just got a deal on a foil Blightsteel Colossus that I simply couldn't pass up. So as most magic players do, I just saw the card and immediately blacked out waking up moments later at a purchased screen. To be honest, though my Skyshroud Claim alter had a setback: Battleborn foils are printed in such a way that the foil and the art are together in a thin layer, so if you try and alter the card you'll strip BOTH the art and the foiling...defeating the whole purpose of getting a foil altered art card. But when one door closes, another opens: My order is now $50 off, so with the new refund I decided to put that money to best use: getting more crac-er...cards.
I assure you, I paid far less than what a foil Blightsteel would go for and it's in LP condition (at least that's what the posting listed). My Blightbutt (yes, it gets a pet name) will be arriving next week (hopefully) just in time for my birthday. Now comes another line of thought: what do I cut for Blightbutt ? Additionally, I realize that now I need to have additional protection and haste given I just put a one card wincon in the deck that can easily be removed by exile - enter Swiftfoot Boots . I think that this card needs to be included alongside Blightbutt , but that makes me have to consider two cards to cut. Some cards i'm looking at cutting are:
- Corpse Cur : This guy is a great source of recursion, but is definitely not a card I'd want in an opening hand. I think i'll slot in Blightbutt for Cur and assess deck performance.
- Phyrexian Arena :One of my precious few draw sources, but it's pretty slow going. I'm considering maybe replacing it with another blue draw source like Mystic Remora . I haven't seen too much impact from Arena .
I don't know what to consider removing to put in Lightning Greaves . Hopefully someone can give me a suggestion and/or make an argument for putting it in or keeping it out. Thanks for reading!
Sorry for not writing back to you for so long. Honestly, I've been kind of focused on tuning and experimenting with the deck. I've got a pretty exciting update for the deck, but I want to save it for my birthday which is coming up very soon! In fact, I think i'll write up a little something in the updates. In regards to your suggestion, I think i'm going to keep this deck as simple as I can - swing wide, and infect as much as possible. No need for fancy combos...just pure and simplistic infect. As I discover new and interesting cards i'll try them out, but for now this is a list I can be comfortable with.

Thanks for commenting on the deck, yeah...politically Atraxa Infect is pretty weak. 1. Your damage doesn't stack with others, 2. Most players aren't looking to be your friend 3. Your creatures don't have the highest Power and Toughness. It's an uphill battle that's for sure. Interesting choice running Kheru Lich Lord, Altered Ego and Gigantoplasm - all choices I've never really considered. Honestly, I want to steer clear of non-infect creatures as much as I can help it. On top of that, i'm trying to go for a certain "Phyrexia only" aesthetic - as much as I can anyway. Thanks for sharing those cards though, i'll definitely give them some though. I'll also check out your deck page.

lordkunai, I was thinking back on what you said about being land/creature light. As I played the deck, I realized there were times when I was hurting for additional infect sources. Usually, as the game progresses my opponents would gang up at some point to remove all of my creatures...and the deck has a rather high average CMC, so more lands were needed. At the time of the post, I had 30 lands and 20 creatures - now i'm up to 35 lands and 21 creatures. What do you think? Is that enough?
