The Siege of the Sliver Hive [Co-op Horde Magic!]

Casual* Budget Casual Horde Magic Sliver Theme/Gimmick Tribal

Welcome to the Siege of Sliver Hive!

Horde Magic is a casual format where any number of players work together to defeat an automated deck! Typically made with zombies, the Survivors work together to try and fight off the Horde of Zombies. In this deck specifically, the Alliance of Planeswalkers battles the Hive of Slivers.

The Hive

  • The Hive has no active player and can't choose targets or activate abilities of creatures.
  • The Hive has no life total, but when it takes damage, it puts that many cards from the top of its library into its graveyard.
  • Before the game, after shuffling the Hive's library, remove the top 30 minus X cards from the top of its library, where X is the number of players times 5. If you wish to increase the difficulty, do not follow this step.
  • The Hive skips its first 3 turns to allow the Alliance to set up defenses.
  • At the beginning of the Hive's first turn, flip the top card of the Hive's library over and play it without paying its mana cost. If it is a colorless artifact spell, repeat this process.
  • The Hive's creatures cannot block and must attack each turn if able.
  • The Hive has no hand. If the Hive would draw a card, it instead plays the top card of its library without paying its mana cost.
  • The Hive loses when it has no cards remaining in its library and no creatures on the battlefield.
  • If the Hive gains life, return that many cards from its graveyard to its library.
  • If the Hive is forced to make a choice, then the Alliance decides which choice would be most beneficial to the Hive.

The Alliance

  • All players participating in the game are members of the Alliance.
  • The players in the Alliance all have the same life pool and count as one player during combat.
  • The Alliance starts the game with 80 base life, beginning with 10 less life for each player participating.
  • The rules for the Alliance mirror that of Two-Headed Giant, in that the Alliance take their turn at the same time and attack and block in unison.
  • The Alliance lose when their life total becomes 0 or less.
  • If an Alliance member draws a card that could universally destroy the Hive, or is deemed "too powerful" by the consensus of the Alliance, they may exile that card and draw a new card.

Make a Note

The decks that the Alliance use should have their only win condition be dealing damage. Infect, mill, infinite combos, and other win conditions generally make the game too easy and significantly less fun, so I would suggest that you stay away from using them.
  • Hunter Sliver , for the purpose of this deck, reads "Whenever a sliver you control attacks, defending player must block it if able"
  • Mesmeric Sliver , for the purpose of this deck, reads "Whenever a sliver enters the battlefield under your control, each opponent puts the top card of their library into their graveyard"
  • Frenetic Sliver, for the purpose of this deck, reads "Slivers you control have 'If this permanent would die, flip a coin. If you win the flip, regenerate it. If you lose the flip, sacrifice it.'"
  • Firewake Sliver , for the purpose of this deck, reads "Slivers you control have haste and get +2/+2."
  • Sentinel Sliver and Synchronous Sliver read "Slivers you control have Wither (These creatures deal damage in -1/-1 counters)"

When building this deck, I tried to keep it on a very tight budget to make it reasonable to order. Instead of using tokens, as Horde decks usually do, I chose to use colorless Sliver artifact creatures, as those come in a nice varying power and toughness. I have looked at all sliver cards, but I would still love to hear suggestions about minor changes I could make to either the deck or the rules to make it more balanced or fun. Thanks, and enjoy sieging the Hive!
A different and strongly suggested gamemode for increasing the challenge. In this mode, each time you defeat the Hive, you shuffle the Hive's graveyard and exile back into its library, and the Hive gains a token that says "Creatures you control get +1/+1". The Alliance is allowed to keep 6 permanents per player, and the rest are shuffled back into their library, along with their graveyard.

Any suggestions are welcome, especially ones about rules I have forgotten, and leave an upvote if you enjoy the deck!
