The Sidar and The Smasher

Commander / EDH* BRGW Group Slug

tiptop

This deck was inspired by this terrific Pharika list - Pharika, God of the Group Slug by 119passerby

The modus operandi of the deck is to "giveth and taketh away." You'll be handing out tokens to your opponents, encouraging them to whack each other by being mostly unblockable thanks to our man Sidar Kondo and then dishing out nasty death triggers through various means. Note - the deck is NOT necessarily built around maximizing Vial Smasher's usefulness, she just provides greater reach for our burn.

Step 1: Giveth The idea is to have tokens coming out of everyone's ears and to do that this deck can potentially hand out 16 different types of tokens - mostly symmetrical. Here's a look at our token makers:

Terastodon - 3/3 Elephants

Hungry Lynx - 1/1 Rats

Pharika, God of Affliction - 1/1 G/B Snakes

Infernal Genesis - 1/1 Minions

Seed the Land - 1/1 Snakes

Hunted Troll - 1/1 Faeries

Ezuri's Predation - 4/4 Beasts (for you!)

Acorn Catapult - 1/1 Squirrels

Forbidden Orchard - 1/1 Spirits

Beast Within - 3/3 Beast

Akroan Horse - 1/1 Soldiers

Tombstone Stairwell, Dark Salvation - 2/2 Zombies

Sylvan Offering - 1/1 Elf Warriors and X/X Treefolk

Goblin Spymaster - 1/1 Goblins

Tempt with Vengeance - 1/1 Elementals

Alliance of Arms - 1/1 Soldiers

Varchild's War-Riders - 1/1 Survivors

Hunted Dragon - 2/2 Knights

March of Souls - 1/1 flying Spirits

Step 2: Taketh Away Here's the "slug" part of the deck: now that you've given out all these lovely tokens, blow up the board and punish your opponents for having them.

Boardwipes - Massacre Wurm, Duneblast, Volcanic Vision, Brightflame, Deathbringer Thoctar

Punishment - Stronghold Discipline, Poisonbelly Ogre, Falkenrath Noble, Blood Artist, Netherborn Phalanx, Blood Seeker, Dingus Staff, Rakdos Charm, Hissing Iguanar

2 in 1 - Shriveling Rot, Deadly Tempest, Ezuri's Predation, Incite Rebellion

Some things in the mail - Suture Priest

There's a smattering of support cards in the deck: most of the spot removal can hit any permanent for versatility, pillowfort effects to discourage aggro, and solid recursion spells to bring back spent cards. Overabundance helps and hurts, but it's great for ramping into our fat spells while keeping the pressure on; also hilarious when everyone's down to single digit life totals. In my experience, the success of the deck greatly increases with the # of opponents, but can be absolutely punishing 1v1 in the right matchup. Enjoy!

A note on the manabase - I pretty much copied the base in the BRGW pre-con commander deck and it has worked wonders. YMMV.
