The Shapeshifters

Commander / EDH*

Maybeboard

As a purely blue commander deck, this thematically consistent concept forms a unique strategy where rather than building your own brute strength with your armies, you instead build off of your opponents'. As a shapeshifter deck, I call it "thematically consistent" because it not only has a very strong synergy of shapeshifter creatures, but also the noncreatures featured also have a shapeshifting nature, e.g., Turn to Frog and Gift of Tusks are both inside this deck, among many others.

I honestly feel, despite at the time of writing having never officially playtested this deck as it is a newborn, that this deck is most conveniently played as a teammate deck, as its greatest weakness is that its primary function is to clone creatures you don't own, which thus makes the deck admittedly quite predictable in that regard. I don't think it's unethical to play free for all with this commander, but I think it would benefit strongly if it had a little bit of a helping hand.

Even though it is highly dependent on the development of other players, that does not make this deck weak in any sense of the word. Its powerful combos and game changing techniques can easily bring the game to a sudden unexpected twist if played carefully, and it can easily dominate the board if the opponents are quite keen on playing massive creatures, with the additional perk that you can cast the same massive creatures for less than half the price, and over and over again at that. However control decks, quick game ending decks and swarm decks would decimate this kind of deck real fast, as its sole purpose is to control the board with copied creatures and having only the options of 1/1s and 2/2s to choose among an army of dozens would just simply not bode well for it. However I feel that this deck can more easily defeat all three of these kinds of decks given the opportunities provided by a team mate to further advance its development before they have a chance to themselves.

That is how I feel about this deck. Tell me what you think in the comments! I would love to hear your feedback!
