Dominaria Update —April 24, 2018
A few recent updates to the deck:
Unwind is the only card I'm adding from Dominaria. The deck wants to hold up mana to reanimate at the end step. Similar to Rewind, this new counterspell allows me to hold up mana, counter if needed, and then still have mana to reanimate.
Also swapped in Stinkweed Imp. This guy is great at self-milling and provides a pseudo-deathtouch rattlesnake for the early game to dissuade early aggression.
I've put back in Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Illusionist's Bracers which were cut last time. Yes, it's a bit mana intensive to equip the bracers and be able to activate the Scarab God. However, late game it is absolutely crushing to be able to reanimate 2 creatures for the price of 1.

FaiberJC thanks for your interest in the deck. I don't know a lot about 1 vs 1 but I think the deck my be too slow. to speed the deck up I would reduce the average CMC of the deck and throw in mana rocks like Sol Ring and Mana Crypt (they are banned in my playgroup. only reason they are not on this list). I would also run more tutors like Vampiric Tutor and Demonic Tutor in order to grab Training Grounds. Training Grounds really helps the deck run smoothly. Have you seen Jolt's Scarab God deck on YouTube? He plays 1 vs. 1 so you may wanna check it out.

If you've got the Scarab God eating guys out of graveyards, why not a couple eldrazi to put them back? Blight Herder, Ulamog's Nullifier, Ulamog's Reclaimer and Wasteland Strangler all have useful abilities and let you reanimate an opponent's creature a second time.

Would you be able to tell me if he could be competitive on Commander 1v1 and what would be the modifications?
