This deck's concept is based around Assault Formation.

To consider why each creature is good, we'll look at the toughness/mana (T/M) ratio. Let's take a look at the tools we have at our disposal:

Tree of Redemption The boss finisher. Is a 13/13 with the main card out, and can tap to save your life. It's basically a tree kraken. T/M ratio is 3.25.

Thallid Shell-Dweller Has a T/M ratio of 2.5 and produces tokens without having to tap.

Perimeter Captain Allows you to gain life blowbacks from your defenders and has a T/M ratio of 4.0. (In addition, he's a 1 cost 4/4 with the combo out. Yay!)

Stalwart Shield-Bearers Gives all your other creatures +2/+2. T/M ratio of 1.5.

Wall of Tanglecord In because of it's 3.0 T/M ratio. One of the strongest ground creatures.

Wall of Shards It's a 4.0 T/M that has flying. It's an 8/8 as long as you have your main key out, but it's risky against strong control. You can consider putting it on the sideboard, but I like going ham and putting it in. Usually you can murder them before you have to worry about the cumulative upkeep.

Overgrown Battlement Sure, why not. I'll take more mana. T/M ratio of 2.0.

Orator of Ojutai Because it looks fancier than Angelic Wall. A flyer is always good in a deck like this.

Guard Duty For the fun lore synergy, and because good modern decks should have control.
