Long live the Queen!

From the beginning of my magic playing I have always loved the pillow-fort play style. I find that shutting down your opponent from doing much of anything is very satisfying. I found Queen Marchesa and decided that she is the perfect backbone to what I hope will be one of the best pillowforts around.

How it looks...

The idea of this deck is to become the monarch, and make it very difficult for people to attack, or at least profitably attack you. We keep the monarch emblem this way, and therefore have card advantage. Draw through the deck to get out a win con. There are SO many cards placed in this deck to keep your queen safe. What I love the most about this deck is you aren't even trying to keep Marchesa herself safe, you are just trying to keep her crown. (maintain the monarchy). like i said earlier, Queen Marchesa is the backbone of the deck. She brings the Monarch Emblem into the game when she enters crowning you the leader in card draw. If you lose that crown she gives you assassins to take it back. She is a very handy toolkit. Once your Queen gives you the monarch emblem its essential we maintain it. Here is a list of cards that will help the most with that. The majority of cards make your opponents stuff cost more, or come into play tapped. It just slows everything down to a crawl.

Creature highlights...

  1. High Priest of Penance. With this guy on the field people will have a hard time wanting to attack into it.
  2. Kambal, Consul of Allocation. Might seem minuscule but this will make your opponent think twice about their choices. Also the life gain will allow you to use your life as a better recourse. Especially because you wont be taking a lot of combat damage.
  3. Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs. Amazing card. Every time you get attacked you grow a stronger board presence, which means more blockers and more damage output. Punished opponents for attacking you.
  4. Knights of the Black Rose . Like Kambal, this gives a cushion with the life gain, brings back the monarch emblem when it enters. Punishes your opponents for taking the emblem.
  5. Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker. AMAZING card. Pretty straight forward. Punishes people for smacking you.
  6. Ophiomancer. Keeps deathtouch on your side of the field. No one likes attacking into a deathtouch creature. Aids in getting Monarchy back when lost as well.
  7. Royal Assassin. The name fits the deck for one, and also when a creature attacks they will be tapped. This dude assassinates them for it. Get punished for attacking.
  8. Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts . Super straight forward. Who would want to attack into you with her out?
  9. Windborn Muse. just another Ghostly Prison but with a flying body.

Enchantments highlights...

  1. Dictate of Erebos. Amazing support card. This deck has plenty of creatures in it, not including the high amount of tokens. No one will want to attack into you, even with a 1/1 out when they have to sac their dudes for it.
  2. Ghostly Prison. This is kind of the whole idea of the deck summed up.
  3. Marchesa's Decree. There are plenty of cards that have your opponent lose a life here or there. It adds up. This is just kind of an example of it.
  4. No Mercy. Kind of broken in my opinion. just more punishment for attacking me.
  5. Solitary Confinement. You have tons of card draw... skipping your draw step means nothing.

Win cons...

  1. Assemble the Legion + Support.
  2. Luminarch Ascension + Support.
  3. Sanguine Bond OR Cliffhaven Vampire +Exquisite Blood. whenever you gain life, or they lose life this goes infinite and you win.
  4. Just slowly drain them with all the random points of damage here n there then smack them with a couple dudes. there are plenty of creatures in the deck.

Misc...

With the amount of random life gain abilities we have in here we can successfully use Necropotence and Phyrexian Arena to ensure we get to our wins faster. if someone takes the monarch from us we have Ophiomancer, assassins from Queen Marchesa, Tokens and flyers with deathtouch and first strike from Ankle Shanker& Archetype of Courage to make it very difficult for your opponent to want to block. Behind the Scenes is something that also allows our creatures to get in and get that crown back. There are also plenty of cards that just GIVE you monarch when they enter.I tried to make sure i put a ton of removal in the deck as well because we need to make SURE if there are things getting past our fort, or damaging the walls then that threat has to go.

Recap...

The Queen Marchesa makes a strong backbone to a deck that is straight punishment to play against. Attacking into it sucks, removing our board sucks, just playing spells in general sucks to do and you certainly get punished for it. Build you defenses and hide behind your castle walls. Don't let your fort fall and you will remain the Monarch. Have fun. Thank you for reading. Thank you even more if you made it through all this. Please upvote, or leave suggestions.
