Creature (1)

The Mimeoplasm

The Mimeoplasm EDH version 3.1

I bought The Mimeoplasm pre-constructed Commander deck about a year ago and it's always been my personal favourite. I love playing good value cards and being excited about playing all of them, building up a decent board state and then slamming down a fatty creature on the battlefield and swinging at someone's face for the kill. This deck has undergone a few revisions over the last year from its original pre-constructed state to what it is now.

This deck has a lot of creatures with interesting ETB effects, so I've thrown in Deadeye Navigator for now. I'll report on my successes (or otherwise) as I figure out this list.

Deck Style

  • Lots of big, swingy creatures
  • Graveyard recursion
  • A good mix of ramp, tutor, and draw spells
  • General often acts as a win-con

The Swingers Club

Bloodgift Demon
Look at this guy. He looks like a total pimp. It's like he's giving a speech at the pimp's convention. Or he's about to serve the Kool-Aid. Either way, a 5/4 body for 5 mana is decent, Flying makes him good, and being Phyrexian Arena on a stick makes him great.

Consecrated Sphinx
A ridiculous amount of card draw on an evasive stick. I didn't realize until it was too late, but it's also the perfect answer to Notion Thief.

Inkwell Leviathan
A decent body, good evasion and avoidance from spot removal, this thing makes the perfect body for the Mimeoplasm to copy out of your graveyard. Its 7 power is nothing to shake a stick at, either, and it makes a nice target to sacrifice to Disciple of Bolas and then stapled onto the Mimeoplasm. Otherwise, you can either Reanimate or Birthing Pod into this guy relatively easily. This guy wins games.

Invisible Stalker
Unassuming at first, this guy turns into the perfect body to leapfrog an insane amount of +1/+1 counters when combined with, oh, let's say Lord of Exctinction? I've turned our neighbourhood invisible man into a 60/60 unblockable nuisance. His protection from spot removal is icing on the cake.

Lord of Extinction
On its own, this thing is gigantic in multiplayer. I tend to play 4+ players, so graveyards tend to have a lot of cards in them by the time this sees play. His weakness is that he's susceptible to removal (although, we do want this to happen) and easy to chump. As such, it should only see battlefield action if Rogue's Passage is out.

Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker
A modest evasive body on his own, his powerful mill effect is a great way to fill a graveyard.

Nether Traitor
A hasty, evasive, recurrable body which is just perfect for carrying a sword or for being our body for The Mimeoplasm.

Sepulchral Primordial
Basically the multiplayer version of Puppeteer Clique. Makes a great target to tutor for with Birthing Pod and is ridiculous when combined with any recurrable ETB effects (ahem Deadeye Navigator, Mimic Vat ) or any of the clone effects stacked in this deck. The fact that he has evasion also makes him a good beater. Stick a sword on this thing and it's pretty much GG.

Sheoldred, Whispering One
Board control and graveyard recursion on an evasive body.

Skarrg Goliath
Bloodrush is a fun mechanic, and this is the best one that fits our colours. Cast on Mimeoplasm, it can be a win-con. His 9/9 trampler body that we can toss into the grave whenever we want makes him a prime target to reuse later when we cast Mimeoplasm.

Sylvan Primordial
This thing is pure card advantage. In a multiplayer setting (which is what EDH is all about), this will end up destroying 3+ permanents, accelerate your mana, thin your deck, block a 6/6 flyer and live to block again or swing for 6.

Terastodon
OK, he's a little on the expensive side, but that doesn't matter if you're going to be reanimating him. It's also the perfect 8-drop to Pod into before Inkwell Leviathan. Add some flicker or recursion to this guy and it's just the ultimate hate machine. He's an overgrown Acidic Slime, and his 9 power also makes him an attractive target for Mimeoplasm.

Wurmcoil Engine
Good all-around value body. 6/6 for 6? Sweet. Deathtouch? Awesome. Lifelink? Rad! And once it's sacced or podded, it still gives value. Ridiculous value, puts most other 6-drops to shame.
