The Mindmelter (Competitive Turbo-Mill)

Modern* Burn Competitive Mill UB (Dimir)

LeoLeft

Sideboard

Sorcery (2)

Artifact (4)

With much credit going to TheGodofNight's Force of Mill deck, this is a modern mill/burn deck that is built for speed. I built this deck wanting to create a competitive deck using mill as the sole win condition. I have a thing for Dimir flavour and definitely want to keep this thing U/B. Please add any suggestions for improvement!

It focuses on the cheapest, most efficient mill sorceries (Glimpse the Unthinkable, Breaking, Mind Funeral) coupled with a few other powerful mill effects (Hedron Crab, Mesmeric Orb, Archive Trap.) The rest of the deck is dedicated either to getting me more mill cards (Thought Scour, Visions of Beyond) or allowing me to survive into the mid-game (Darkness, Fatal Push.) Crypt Incursion extends the game as well, but sometimes in a more dramatic fashion. I have personally gained over 90 life from this spell; its effect on many matchups cannot be understated.

Fetch lands Polluted Delta and Flooded Strand, and Bloodstained Mire are a deadly combination with Hedron Crab, you can even hit yourself with Ghost Quarter for some extra mill when the crab is on the board, but the land destruction is more often used for destroying man lands and catching enemies with Archive Trap.

The sideboard was constructed in order to combat some glaring weaknesses of the mill mechanic in certain match-ups. 4x Leyline of the Void are essential when facing decks with cards that thrive off graveyard interaction (Tarmogoyf, Lingering Souls, Snapcaster Mage, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, etc.) I've included Echoing Truth, and Annul in case tough sideboard cards like Leyline of Sanctity and Elixir of Immortality appear. Surgical Extraction is excellent to swap in when facing combo, tron, and many others that rely on seeing specific cards. Damnation will be sided in against creature-based aggro (considering moving this to mainboard.)

Play testing shows that milling your opponent out is quite consistent by turn 5, with turn 4 and 3 wins being easily achievable if you get any free casts of Archive Trap. When you play this deck you must prioritize attacking your opponent's library as quickly as possible, this deck has answers but can still be fragile in longer matches. If you lean towards aggressive hands and put the pressure on early you can leave your opponents scratching their heads when their library is empty in the matter of a few turns.
