The Mind Slayer

Modern* Control Mill U/B (Dimir)

JazzCrimes Score: 1

Description

The next deck in my series of I F#!king Hate Delver.

Blue Black Standard Control. Mill to win. I have questions:

  1. How should I draw cards?

  2. Grindclock vs Increasing Confusion ? Or Sands of Delirium ?

Tome Scour and Dream Twist are really good for mill decks, the latter especially for control decks with lots of counters. Also, card:Jace's Phantasm is really good on defense. Overall, though, I like it!

Lol. I really wish Tome Scour was Standard, but I have a deck I've been brewing that uses that card and Mind Sculpt. In any case, here's a finished draft of this deck. What do you think?

Have you thought about adding Sign in Blood for your card draw issue? How often do you see Grindclock come out, and how much milling do you get out of it?

Also, the Contagion Clasp and Contagion Engine , are they there for proliferating your Grindclock ?

nemesis101: I tried Sign in Blood last night- I can't really afford the life loss, because if the draw doesn't get me a kill spell when I need it, I end up taking lots of damage. I thought of the Super Contagion Bros. as dual purpose- for killing and for grindclock. Took out the clock (and Contagion Bros,) because now I'm thinking Sands is the way to go. What do you think of this draft?

Jace, Memory Adept is a crazy good card for mill. You can combo him with Contagion Engine and Grindclock .

This is what I would change. First, I would fit in 4 Jace, Memory Adept for sure. Then 4 Pristine Talisman and 4 Snapcaster Mage . Maybe 1 Sword of Body and Mind . Then 4 Sign in Blood , 2 Tamiyo, the Moon Sage , 2 Sands of Delirium (awesome card), 1 Gilded Lotus . 4 counter spells (either Mana Leak or Dissipate ) Then black removal like Doom Blade , Murder , Mutilate , card:Black Sun's Zenith, etc...You could also consider Invisible Stalker with that Sword of Body and Mind . That would do some crazy milling. Cards like Dream Twist are cool, but it doesn't make a big enough impact on a 60 card deck to hold up to cards like Mind Sculpt and Jace, Memory Adept .

The idea of proliferating the Grindclock I feel like is doing too much. You want that Grindclock to mill lots right now. Thats why Jace, Memory Adept and Sands of Delirium are so much more powerful. And then you can fill up spots with control cards, because you'll need them to survive.

Also, control decks as a starting point should run 24 lands, in my opinion. With cards like Sands of Delirium you want as much mana as you can get.

I also think that Ghost Quarter Should be sideboarded, and instead have Drowned Catacomb
